Shadow Genesis - Page 2 Empty Shadow Genesis

Post by Mega Luigi Mon Oct 14, 2013 3:30 pm

    First topic message reminder :

    Hi all.

This topic is about a new mod that is being created by me and my brother, Mario Maniac. Yeah, he is still alive, in case you are in doubt.

First of all, I feel like I should say that this game, like its predecessors, is based in nazis and demons. I understand some of you may not like the idea, but we do. Also, by predecessors, I mean its prequels, all of them. This one is centered in the same story and it involves elements of previous gameses.

If you ever played an addon made by us or heard someone criticizing our style, you probably know how things are going to be developed. We enjoy a challenge, and we also enjoy the fact that this won't be a game that you will be able to finish in a couple hours.

Anyway, we've been working on it for a long time now, although we didn't work that much due to other stuff and whatever. Sprites, sounds, coding and all that stuff, except for maps and music, are already done. Like I said before, there are many level specific codings that are obviously yet to be done.

We didn't decide yet how many levels the game will have yet. We are just going on with the story, until it is the right time to end. I also think it is worth mentioning the maps are all 128x128. We always thought it was bad to have so many small claustrophobic rooms, but that was the only way to make big nice levels.

Obviously, I'm not spoiling much yet, but I can guarantee the game has a bunch of never seen before features.

After that wall of text, here are a bunch of screens, to show something that has been made already. I'll post more screens from time to time in here.

Official Beta Screenshots (latest released version as of now):

Shadow Genesis Part 1 Beta Download: (The forum inserts this adfly thing on the link. I can't do anything about that, so don't complain.)
As bugs are found and fixed, I'll upload new patches here. You should download them as soon as possible. I'll also write what the bug is about.

Important things before you download this:

    • You can press 'L' to see the ratios so far in the game.
    • The game is incomplete. What you will download is a demo version, which corresponds to the first part of a two part game. This part contains 39 levels. Whenever the full version is released, you WILL lose your savegame.
    • It's probably best not to play this on "I am Death Incarnate" unless you want some big suffering.
    • WolferCooker succeeded in completing the game, but that doesn't mean there are no bugs. In fact, I can almost guarantee there are.
    • If you get stuck somewhere and you feel like there is a bug that prevents you from completing it, it's better if you post it here so everyone can see it, and we can fix it if it's really a bug. If it's not a bug, I won't spoil anything and I won't give you the solution.

    • There are no secret levels for now, although some "mechanisms" that would enable you to get to them are already in the game. That means there can be keys/switches/things that have no objective the way the game is now.
    • Although this should be obvious, READ the ReadThis section.
    • Achievements and mementos aren't in the game yet, even though the ReadThis describe them. Don't mind that, for now.

Full package (this has been updated and now links to the official beta version):
    https://www.mediafire.com/file/nnzijaw3aaehu13/Shadow_Genesis_Pt._1_-_Official_Beta.rar/file

Patches (no need to download any of them anymore. All of the patches have been included in the official beta version. The list of patches has been kept here purely as a log).

    :

Full Game (upcoming, not to be released anytime soon):

(contains features not currently available on the official beta)

    Small spoiler: Soul Orb Entrance

    That's it for now. Cya.

If you mean the code changes, then that would be an unbearably long thing. I don't think that's a good idea.

I'm pretty sure (though it's unconfirmed right now) ALL the Doom enemies will be in this one.

I do not know the details (nor do I want to know), but I do know that each enemy will have their own unique behavior so it will be interesting to see how they react now compared to what we've known about them for so many years.

About the average number of levels in a seamless level mod, but the map grid is 128 X 128. Levels are 4X bigger than normal.

It's taking a long time because a lot of levels take up much of the 128 X 128 map and they are putting a lot of work with even the smallest details. AND I MEAN A LOT.

Don't worry. It'll be well worth the wait.

    Heya people,

Since we've been working on this game for such a long time and there is still a lot to do, we decided to release a demo of the first part of the game. For some time now, WolferCooker has been playing that first part and helping us to encounter and fix any bug.

One thing must be mentioned, though. If you play this demo, once the final version is released, you will lose your savegame for sure, so don't expect that you will be able to use it. We will just wait for him to finish the game and make the final adjustments, then it can be released.

In the meanwhile, there is a teaser video showing a bit of the game on the first page.

Hey guys. Yes I have been hard at work testing since Christmas. It has been very frustrating at times. I even raged quit and started from the very beginning many times.

But through it all, I am almost done and should everything go smoothly in terms of my progression through the remaining 2 levels, I should have the beta testing all wrapped by early next week. School starts again for me next week anyway so I am determined to get this done soon.

I can assure you all that once it's released, you will understand why it took them 6 years to get this far.

Will it be 100% ratio progress that you can view during the level gameplay (which the mods "Operation Eisenfaust: Origins" and Operation Eisenfaust: Legacy" have)?

And when the game will be released, would it be a readme manual list (in Word, html or pdf etc.) that follow together with the game? (Like the mod "Orb of Dilaaria" had.)

So far that hasn't been done, but it's an easy to do feature. If it helps to have that, then you can count it will be there. About the manual, everything is currently explained in the ReadThis section of the game. Not sure if you meant you wanted an external manual or if you are simply asking if there is a manual at all.

A little advice to you, Michael-John: You can always play the previous games Mega Luigi and Mario Maniac had released before (The Lost Relic or Weltgericht) and other superb Wolf3d mods. Those resist to play again and again, and will definely shorten your waiting time.

Shadow Genesis - Page 2 Empty Re: Shadow Genesis

Post by brickgolem Fri Jan 22, 2016 2:47 pm

Based from what we've seen from the screenshots and the trailer of Shadow Genesis, I think it deserve a preview:

Since I was a child, Wolfenstein 3d was one of my favorite games of all time. But even more surprisingly,
it was possible to make a lot of mods from the original game to new ones (and that includes sprites, textures, story etc.). Mods like "Project Eisenritter", "Orb of Dilaaria" were few of examples of really good mods. But over time, two mod makers, Mega Luigi and Mario Maniac, managed to create some mods that took me away from the other mods. It was the gameplay, new enemies, atmosphere, and originality that really fascinated me. "Operation Weltmeisterung" and "Weltgericht" were really good games, but it was "The Lost Relic" that overcome my excitement. And since then, I never get tired of playing it again and again. But what we are witness by now, is very astonishing.

Don't misunderstand me, there was a lot of other Wolf3d mods that came between that, but "Shadow Genesis" is a monster of a Wolf3d mod. I'm really sure that this game will shock and pleasure all who really love playing Wolf3d mods. It is really impressive how far Mega Luigi and Mario Maniac had managed to create such a huge project that I never thought was possible. And with the help of coding from WolferCooker, that really costs a lot of blood, sweat, tears, rage; but also at the same time, vision and hope to make this project. Six years of work. Respect.Very Happy

Everything you want from the game is here, and that includes: Large and many levels (maps are on 128x128), a lot of new enemies, traps, weapons, items, artifacts etc., weather effects and so on. But new elements like puzzle switches, brainteaser, gun powder and "Snake/Blazkowitz" dialogue is a huge step forward of making a new game. This is not a game where you'll run and gun, no, this is a game which will definitely work your brain out. See for yourself the gameplay of Wolfenstein, the atmosphere of Doom, the length of Final Fantasy and the action and brainteasing of God of War, and you are nearby.

I dare to say that "Shadow Genesis" is not only the best mod that will be released that year, but also the best mod that will be released ever. It is a milestone compared to other great mods, and Mega Luigi, Mario Maniac and WolferCooker deserve to be titled "Greatest Wolf3d Mod Makers" of all time. "Shadow Genesis" is a majestic masterpiece, and when it comes, it will belong to everyone who like playing games.

Thanks for the compliment, but I'm not a coder. Other than offering ideas to them, I did give them some sprites I modified and they are using them.

BTW, they're fine tuning the project right now. There were a lot of quirks during testing.

@brickgolem: I have to say that was unexpected. Never knew you had enjoyed those games so much. We really appreciate your compliments, that was very kind of you. I can't really measure how many times bigger the amount of work for this game has been (and will be) comparing to the older ones, it indeed takes a lot of energy from us.

Although WolferCooker has not helped us with the code, he has been participating on this long journey with us for a long time, and he has been very helpful so far.
I'm happy that the teaser video seems to have given the correct idea for you.

It's definitely not a run and gun game, like you said. I'm flattered to hear the comparisons you made with well-known popular games as well, thanks for that. Like WolferCooker said, there were many things to be fixed, and we are trying to let it as perfect as possible before releasing it. We will also double check the places which caused him problems, and hopefully they won't cause any more trouble.

I thank you again for your words. It's one of those kind of things that give you an energy boost to keep working Very Happy. If it all works smoothly, it won't be too long for the demo to be here.

You will do no such thing Michael-John. You will NOT go around and do as you please with other people's Wolf3d mods and release them as your own without their permission and giving them the proper credit.

What you are doing is beyond annoying and it's pissing off a lot of people in the Wolf community. You may like other people's Wolf3d mods, but you do not respect their work and privacy. Mario Maniac and Mega Luigi have no intentions of releasing any of their source codes and that's that.

This isn't a country club where everyone is fine with what you do. There are subtle rules around here and you are not following them.

I was like you once. I even pissed off the great Wolf Skevos-Jones. Not sure if he forgives me for what happened all those years ago, but it made me realize that there are boundaries that you shouldn't cross.

If you keep this up, I will put in a good word to Dark_wizzie to ban you from this forum. You see your reputation points? They're in the negatives. You wanna know why? It's because you have not earned the trust and the respect of the Wolf community here as a whole. Just because they aren't saying anything to you doesn't mean that they are okay with what you are doing. I've seen on DHW that one Wolfer did not appreciate you making a mod that came straight from his source code and you didn't give him the credit.

You better clean up your act because not only you'll get banned here, you'll also get banned from DHW as well.

This is my last post to you because I am done with your shenanigans. Good day to you sir.

That is why it departed from DHW bodies with troubled by a moderator. Why, anyway you own forums and there I am the moderator. I am more lenient than others. I am not good converting as Andy Nonymous. But he disappeared and no one knows what happened to him. Why should I need to convert me. Why, You do not know that means a I work lot of mod for longer and often exhausting. Don‘t fightning I and you. I don‘t like it fightning. Okay? My live very hard.

Sorry to interrupt this argument.  I must tell you something.  Officer-Michael John is confusing me with his grammar.  When I was the webmaster of Wolfenstein3d.co.uk for 2 months, I misunderstood that NT Games from Hungary is a group known as Protocol Cateko on Youtube & I even typed it here: http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/links.htm .  In about October, I learned from Kkk911 that they are not.  Officer-Michael John is not part of their team.  Officer-Michael John from Hungary is the only person known as Protocol Cateko on Youtube.  I can see how NT Games or Kkk911 hates to be confused with him.  I just thought that I should let you know in case Kkk911 or another Hungarian posts in this thread.

...& Officer-Michael John, please learn more about English grammar.  You’re too confusing with what you type.

A word of advice to you guys; Think with your brains on this game. This isn't a run 'em and gun 'em  and all guns no brains mod. You have to develop strategies to get through some levels and to do that it takes trial and error. Don't expect to NOT die on each level. In fact, expect to die many times as you progress. That's how Mario Maniac and Mega Luigi's mods are, but they took it all to the next level (and then some more thanks to me)

If it weren't for me constantly starting over and finding so many bugs, it would have taken me at least 1.5 weeks GAMEPLAYING TIME to beat it. Your results will vary.

Wolf3d puzzle lovers will be overjoyed to see a mod like this.

Indeed there was a bug. That has been fixed already on the Patch 002.

A new patch was released fixing a bug related to level 20. This one could cause serious problems if you don't use it before reaching the mixing puzzle on that level. Suspect

WolferCooker alerted me for another bug concerning the same puzzle. There is a new patch, again, and this one contains map files and no executable. If you already download the exe from patch 003, there's no need to download it again, just download the map files. It should be fixed now and there shouldn't be any problems even if your savegame is already at level 20.

The Read Me manual list is by far the longest and the best thing I've read right now. Everything from story to information about the game is very detailed, specially the story which pull you back to their earlier mods. The enemy list is my favourite part of the manual list (healing point, resistance and weakness status are very impressive).

However, I've noticed something missing there. The Clone enemy is pictured in the list, but it have no status at all. And the enemy like Flamethrower SS and Super Clone is also missing both pictured and described, since those enemies were seen in previous game The Lost Relic.

I mentioned about extracted Read Me manual list earlier, but I think I take it back. It holds enough for the ingame manual list.

    Great job.Smile

In fact, I noticed Clone's information was missing a couple days ago, although I hadn't noticed about Super Clone or the Flamethrower SS Embarassed . Thanks for mentioning it.

I'm glad that the ReadThis provided enough information for you. It sure took some time for that to be written considering all the new things to be explained.

    I appreciate the compliments Cool.
