Got into a little Youtube argument (I know, bad Wizzie, bad!)...
Some person said that Hitler's strategy during WWII was crap, that he had bit off more than he could chew. This is obviously true. He had to take on USSR. I don't necessarily think Stalin would be so inclined to fight Hitler if Hitler didn't attack USSR. But I'd wager that even if Hitler didn't attack USSR, Hitler would still have lost. His own ideology, to remove current religion and eventually replace it with his blood myths and his own dogmas about the supreme race set to rule over the earth-that is fundamentally consistent with biting off more than you can chew. Because taking over the world minus Italy, Japan, and USSR is still too much. Had Hitler just attacked the surrounding countries and stopped, the German empire would be larger than it is today. But I mean, I believe it was Roosevelt, who officially said 'Oh no, we're being neutral!' when we were sending aid to England. I really don't think we would've been neutral against Germany, not my longshot, even if Germany didn't directly attack our supply ships. We were fighting the Japanese, whom the Americans hated. And they were part of the Axis side. Granted, building the atomic bomb was due in a large part to being scared to death of the Germans. But I believe either way we would have came out with the atomic bomb first. Once I'm granted that, I think my case is good. We'll be able to bomb everybody, even the Bushido, Zen-Buddhist-crazed Japanese with their Kamikazes and God-King-Emperor leader into submission. We'll wipe cities off the face of the earth.
Then I get comments about 'oh, it takes more than firepower to win a war'. Cool beans. I'm not sure that's so true, given the massive firepower difference, but are we saying here that America had zero strategy? I'm quite sure that's not true. We pretty much caught Germans pants down on D-Day.
Then I get comments on my 'American education'.
Well, cool. If I'm wrong, kindly notify the errors in history, facts, whatnot, without resorting to ad hominems.
Disclaimer: This is all part of my shoddy history knowledge. But I'll never get anywhere in anything if I don't challenge ideas and risk pwning myself, right?
