Best Wolfenstein mod(s) WITHOUT any WWII correspondence

Post by WolfForever on Wed Feb 23, 2011 8:11 pm

Since nearly all vanilla Wolf3D add-ons and the majority of TC's as well come with stories that are set during or related to WWII, I thought it would be interesting to create a thread focused on good Wolfenstein mods that depart from the WWII setting and instead thrive on a story of their own.

So my questions is, what are your favorite mods for Wolfenstein that do NOT contain stories related to or set during WWII?

I personally haven't played that many, but mods like Orb of Dilaaria, Project X, or the Lost World series would be examples of just a couple mods I can think of off the top of my head that fit this category.

If I was to pick a CURRENT favorite of mine, it would probably be the first (main) episode of Guns and Glory by Little Cherub, however I have not played some highly praised games like Orb yet.

EDIT: I actually realized Guns and Glory does have some slight story resemblance to WWII, but since it's set much later (in 2007) and in a different location, I think it's still fair game to call it a non-WWII mod. Also I ignore the 21 other (non-E1) levels of GaG, because they aren't the main focus of the product and frankly, I don't think they even come close to the standard set by the main game.

I really dont like non WW2 ones. They end up feeling sluggish or odd.

the best I've played are the ones with WW2 references.

Most wolf mods try being over the top and look bad or are way to hard or maze like.
    I can name a few.

I only stick to a few wolf mods, the ones that feel like the original, and ones that feel like updated versions of the original. Like the stuff WSJ makes.

Orb of Dilaarie and Absence are the two mods that come to mind first. I'm sure there are more that I've played but I can't think of them right now.

There's also the medieval type mods. Halls of Stonehenge is one I like a lot.

I have to say I also enjoyed "medEvil". That was a huge amount of fun. There's also an old demo called "The Sorcerer's Wrath" and that's quite all right as well.

Kreml 3D... If only that'd been finished. Seriously, we need to kick some commie *** in this modding community! cheers

There are also the 2 versions of Astrostein. One was a 3 level demo by Bruce Ryder and the other was a full set by Spifferaneous.

Yeah, the space-tinged mods... I have to say I enjoyed Blake Wolf, Brian. Excellent maps. The first modification I ever tried out.
