I think it's awesome. The MLI way to cheat is horribly old-fashioned and not really worth it, IMO. I'd much rather use a debug mode EXE, but I'd only do that if there's a serious mapping bug involved and there is no other way around it.

I think it's silly. We get it, you don't want cheats and you want to tell the player how to play the game, but killing the player is... well, silly.

Agreed. Instead of killing the player instantly, you should torture him first.

I'd rather let the player decide how he or she wants to play the game.Mega Luigi wrote:Dark_wizzie wrote:I think it's silly. We get it, you don't want cheats and you want to tell the player how to play the game, but killing the player is... well, silly.

Disagree. The player is not the game. Far from it. The player is important to the game, but he's not vital, in my opinion. If people out there made games purely to pleasure the player, we'd see zero guards, lots of weapons, an expectation that each and every map is fantastically easy and at the same time detailed and extensive... No such thing. If anyone should decide how anything should be in a game it is the author. Press ILM and die - fine by me. Quicksave does exist. And what the hell is the fun in ILM'ing your way out of a WSJ mod? I mean come on. Methinks Eric is just a fraidycat which is odd 'cause his own maps are absolutely nightmarish in terms of difficulty. I mean real sadist. So this is just... Odd.

Well the example you gave, how if the game is made solely to please the player, that there would be zero guards... Fantastically easy doesn't always mean most enjoyment. For most people enjoyment is found somewhere in between extreme easiness and extreme difficulty. And if the player is going to use cheats until every level is too easy, the player is sabotaging his own ability to enjoy the game. Quicksave exists... ish. I can play through basically any mod without cheats no problem (I beat SHS on hardest before I released it), but I prefer to have the option to cheat and disabling it is one thing, death on cheats to me is just sadist humor.Thomas wrote:Disagree. Again, I'm all for elimination/tease death for using keyboard cheats, but a cheat parameter batch file I'm completely okay with.

I get your point, but, in my opinion, if you give the player all this power it could make the game lose a bit of its value. I mean, it's not the same thing when you can just use some codes and get to a point easily. Particularly, I also like to let the player decide how he/she is going to play, but I also enjoy to constrain that decision to a degree that obligates the player to play it according to the way the game was planned to be played.
