This question has been bugging me. How many people do you figure, play new Wolf3d add-ons from time to time, but don't comment on it? I mean, there has got to be some players that are not in DHW or the Haven, and don't make their own sets. There are also add-on makers that don't join any forums. It's as if I pretend the people that are not in Wolf3d forums don't play Wolf3d... I have gotten random people commenting on my wolf3d videos (Some dude randomly took a video of This Spear's readme o_o ). Makes me wonder. cyclops If only there was a way to reel them in and get them to comment on things. Smile

I remember Chris posting a French forum which had numerous pages of "Nazi Operation" discussion. I also remember a mod called "Ego3D" - don't know anything about the author. Numerous people come and go, some make one mod and that's it. Some people just get on with their lives. I mean, I only mod 'cause I haven't really got much else to do on the computer when I get off work. I don't code, don't do graphics etc... I surf the Internet a lot but I don't really play any games - not even Wolf mods! I just like discussing them, planning maps, maybe making a few if the mood's right for it.

In November 2004 I got to talk with another newbie on the DHW forum, a Dutchman by the name of bartje_remje. He added me on MSN, we talked a little bit and he sent me a map. It had many SS officers and took place mainly in a steel panel maze. I wanted to submit the map to Brian, but shortly after I asked Bart if it was all right and never got a response. Gone with the wind!

A mate of mine also did a map back in early 2005, it must have been. We were ditching biology class in one of the school's IT rooms. I downloaded MapEdit and set it all up and we had fun making a handful of maps together. This is the only time I've ever made mods with anyone, person to person.

My friend 'ponz' introduced me to Wolfenstein. I know he occasionally plays, particularly mods that I recommend to him. We also discuss my modding and other mods when we chat on Pidgin. His sons will on a rare occasion play a mod - they used to play more when they were younger. None of them has joined any forum or given any online feedback that I know of.

That's probably the norm, unfortunately. Those of us haunting the forums and posting about our/others' Wolf3d mods are the exception. We're abnormally obsessed! Razz

There seems to be a Wolf4SDL mod coming out from someone who isn't here at the forums or DHW. Called "Operation: Beyond War". Goes by the Youtube account name of kkk911XD.

He is using my allgemein browncoat guard sprites.

I don't think I will ever make a map with another person, because of the extent of the community now. I'm the only person I know in real life that made maps.

I don't know if Wolf will ever become cool again. Don't know if it ever has been, anyway. Back in 2001 when I finally got the full version I told everyone about it at school. Our youth club's IT room already had the demo version. So all my friends went home and found/played Wolfenstein - the full version. We were discussing Episode 5 and how one guy couldn't find a chain gun but that was all right 'cause the boss (Gretel) wasn't that hard to take down anyway. That was fun!

I remember Jackal, who was a member around 2004-05. He had a mod going called "Amohs Amahwuras" or something like that, and he told me he wouldn't tell his girlfriend that he made mods, wouldn't tell his friends. He kindly asked me not to write him anything Wolf-related on MSN. I think that's a shame. But what can you do. Wolf is decidedly uncool! Cool And that in itself is a very hipster thing to do. Wolf will come in fashion again... lol... No, I don't know. It's just, with the advent of tablets/smart phone apps and games that are so simple and throwback-like (Angry Birds, anyone?) Wolf oughtn't be so obscure.

Me and a couple of friends have been talking about perhaps doing a Wolf3d mod together, but then again we also talked about doing a 3D Bomberman, and that never surfaced. Laughing

I don't think Wolf3d will ever become cool again. Angry birds was simple and cartoony, and new. Sad Even for other games that are like that, I think Angry Birds was really popular by chance.

I had a friend who was really interested in my modding and we started work on a mod together, he was to do the sprite work and coding. He got fixated on trying to break the height issue in Wolf 3d, and of course failed, and subsequently lost interest. All I have left of the work we did is 1 frame of a new Boss he was making.

I shared a map with Ron in Operation Eisenfaust: Origins and that was great fun to do, he took it in directions i wouldn't of thought of, it's a brilliant level (IMO) although I'm not sure I could do it with many other mappers.

I met AReyeP and his Son Daniel in real life and we tossed around the idea of doing something like that. He was working on the SR - 10th Anniversary edition at the time and told me all about this level full of columns he was mapping at the time. For anyone whose played the set I'm sure you know which one we were discussing! Who knows, maybe one day?

I was going to say I don't have time to make Wolf3d mapsets anymore(more true because frankly, I had way too much free time in high school), but I know other mapset authors have jobs and life as well. So I guess it's just a matter of making time.
