Finding keys when playing Laz Rojas' Treasure Hunt for Doom 2 Empty Finding keys when playing Laz Rojas' Treasure Hunt for Doom 2

Post by stathmk Sat Nov 29, 2008 7:11 pm

Eventually, Laz Rojas’ Treasure Hunt will be added to the page of Doom 2 mods at http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/adds_DOOM2.htm . Schabbs and I had trouble finding the keys. I emailed Laz Rojas asking where to find the keys:
Laz Rojas' Email wrote:There are two keys in the first level of Treasure Hunt, a silver key and a gold key, and both are accessible to the player, though well-hidden.

The gold key is necessary for opening the castle's main doors and can be found near these doors. When you begin the map, you're facing the castle in front of you. On either side of the castle is an octagonal-shaped tower that is part of the castle's structure. High up in each of these towers is an opening where a blue SS guard is located, shooting down at you. Go to the tower that is on the left as you approach the castle. Go up to the tower's wall underneath the opening with the SS guard and press the use key against the wall. A lift will lower, and the gold key is on that lift.

The silver key is needed to open the door that leads to the level-ending elevator. Once inside the castle, you first enter a long narrow lobby of grey stone. Go to the left, through the door and into the brown stone room. Go right through another door into a wood panelled room. In front of you is a portrait of Hitler. Press the use key against this portrait and a secret door will open. Descend into a tunnel that leads to a courtyard. The silver key is located in this courtyard.

    Laz
I hope that this information is helpful. I know that this topic info seemed to come out of nowhere, but I wanted to post this on Wolf3D Haven before I’ve forgotten to.

I just tried the left-hand tower again but I could still find no key in there. Sad

ExclamationQuestion!? Um, I don’t know what to say. I’m speechless.

Are you playing on a Macintosh? There’s also Treasure Hunt and Treasure Hunt Deluxe for The Macintosh Doom 2 version. I don’t know if the keys are in a different place in the Macintosh version. I thought he meant the PC version because I didn’t make any mention in my message to him of the Macintosh version. Or maybe it’s something else that’s making us not able to find the key; I don’t know. I haven’t had a Macintosh in about 15 years.

I think that to beat the first level I used the Doom 2 cheat codes like IDFA (happy ammo), IDKFA (very happy ammo), and IDCLIP (no clipping). Or maybe we should type in IDCLEV02 to skip to level 2.

I played the mod on a pc (Windows XP) using the ZDoom port. I included the hunt.deh file when running the game.

I'll try some of the other Doom ports.

I tried playing 'Treasure Hunt' with the GzDoom port and couldn't find the keys with that either. I can't get the Risen3D port to work so I'll come back to this later.

I'll start looking at some of the other mods starting with 'Spear'.

Finding keys when playing Laz Rojas' Treasure Hunt for Doom 2 Empty Try Risen3D

Post by stathmk Tue Jan 06, 2009 4:56 pm

Try Risen3D in Treasure Hunt because not all source ports will support the gold key. If you find the gold key, then send me a message about what version of Risen3D that you used. I wish that if we find the correct Risen3D version, that we could put the download of it on the Doom 2 conversion page.

Finding keys when playing Laz Rojas' Treasure Hunt for Doom 2 Empty What version of Doom Legacy?

PicNic wrote:Use Doom Legacy, works good.
OK, but do you know what version of Doom Legacy that you used? There's more than one version. What version should I use?

I think that I know your email and Valts' email from that time that you both wanted the save game files for "All This And Wolf3D." I'm almost ready to email to both of you the screen shots that Laz Rojas sent to me about where to find the keys. He was also saying that if we can't find the gold key then we're not using Risen3D (Or maybe not the right version of Risen3D).

I had forgotten to mention that when I use Risen3D that I can get the silver key. Or at least that's what happens when I use Risen3D v2.2.

If we still can't find the gold key using Doom Legacy, then I want to type Risen3D urls into archive.org to see if they still have older versions. I don't promise that this will work because archive.org doesn't save everything.

Yes I know, 1.42 doesn't work with some Wolfendooms, instead try use this one (click), it's Version 1.32 Beta 4.

You need to set the path to Doom Legacy.

    Go to Game Mode,
Set the path to where your doom legacy program is [ the path above ]
And under [ where you can click the circles ] set the path to where your doom2.wad is and click on the circle, so you will use doom2.wad.

I followed the directions and also the directions that Valts emailed to me. It has a message that the .wad file can't be found and something about PLAYPAL.

I think that my computer's system is messed up for Doom, Doom 2, and Heretic from this incident:
    https://wolf3d.darkbb.com/off-topic-f14/why-you-should-never-use-a-particular-doom-1-to-doom-2-wad-conversion-program-t1097.htm
My computer's system must be messed up from that conversion program. I can't run Doom 2 without a source port or with Doom Legacy. However, I can run it in Risen3D v2.2, which doesn't have the gold key.

But can any of you get the gold key to appear? That's what I want to know. Once you get it to appear then I'll tell Schabbs that it's time to post it to the Doom 2 page of Wolfenstein 3D conversions.

Edit: Lessons I've learned from this:
-Don't put a key on platform that moves up and down in Doom or Doom 2 unless you want people to complain that they can't find it.
-Don't use a Doom 1 to Doom 2 conversion program from a 1995 CD or it will mess up your computer's system for playing Doom 1, Doom 2, and Heretic.

Finding keys when playing Laz Rojas' Treasure Hunt for Doom 2 Empty Emails

Post by stathmk Thu Jan 08, 2009 6:59 pm

I've gotten emails back from Laz and the programmer or administrator of Risen3D.

Laz said the gold key appears when he uses Risen3D v2.1 on a difficulty level of 3 or higher. He said that the difficulty level doesn't matter because it's the same number of enemies in his mods no matter what the difficulty setting.

I don't have Risen3D v2.1. I've tried Risen3D v2.2 and v2.2.03. The gold key is there but it appears as the yellow microchip as it appears in Doom and Doom 2. The silver key looks like a regular grey key.

The computer programmer or administrator of Risen3D said that it's not a Risen3D error, but a simple map error; and that the key won't appear at the easiest difficulty setting no matter what source port. The message included that the gold key appears in Risen3D 2.2.03.

I'm glad that this is solved. Now Treasure Hunt can be posted.

Finding keys when playing Laz Rojas' Treasure Hunt for Doom 2 Empty Where to find them all

    PC Conversions:
    http://lazrojas.com/wolfendoom/
Macintosh Amerika The Beautiful, Astrostein 2, & Hitler's Graveyard:
    http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/adds_DOOM2.htm
(Astrostein 3 will be added on the page with the 3 others on about Monday when I email Schabbs about some other things)
    Other Macintosh Conversions:
    http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/3744/index.html
aPEX's and Laz Rojas' Amiga WolfenDoom:
    http://apex.gmxhome.de/amiwfd/index2.html
I don't have a Macintosh or an Amiga.

In Laz Rojas' Original Missions and Nocturnal Missions, he added some extras. These include a few extra levels, mineshafts on levels 4-10, 6-9, 6-10, different-looking ghosts, and steps in some places. The secret walls that rise like garage doors should make it easier to find every secret passage on level 2-8 if you want to do that.

I don't remember if it's the very start of Laz' Spear of Destiny or episode 4 or 5, where if you turn around there's a revenant or archvile that can't hurt you. I always get the revenant's and archvile's names confused.

Just to clear up some confusion, AReyeP and MCS have a Doom to Wolfenstein 3D conversion in 6 episodes also called WolfenDoom: http://www.areyep.com/RIPandMCS-Wolfendoom-Main.html

I don’t have a Macintosh. Does anybody have Macintosh Doom 2, and a Macintosh hooked up to the internet? Send me a message if you do. Laz thought that I had a Macintosh and he asked me a technical question about how a Macintosh .sit file will work again if it’s downloaded on a PC and then uploaded to the internet or connected to a Macintosh.

Thanks for all the info on this. I'll check it out on difficulty level 3. Meanwhile, I'll post Treasure Hunt on the DooM2 conversions page.

Here's a pic from Treasure Hunt level 3 showing one of the keys. It was played using ZDoom and on difficulty level 3.
