I have Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and shareware Heretic.
First of all, I was trying to learn how to convert wad files from Doom 1 to Doom 2 because I have Doom 1 files and I'm working on this page: http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/adds_DOOM2.htm .
I have a CD back from the year 1995. A lot of Doom and Doom 2 add-on CDs were made at that time by independent companies and sold in software stores. The CD is Doom 2 Mania Vol 1, which overall is OK, I guess. However, don't use the Doom1to2 conversion program that comes on that and similiar CDs. I was learning how to convert wads over. You must have Doom 1 and Doom 2 for it to work. The program actually did convert the level to Doom 2, however it screwed up my computer and it's much, much slower for Doom 2 and Heretic. It's especially slower whenever there's an enemy with sound. I tried erasing Doom 2 from a folder and reinstalling it to that folder. The beginning of level 1 began to look OK, but as soon as I shot the first zombieman, it dramatically slowed down with the sound. I even ran two virus scan programs to try to see what's wrong, and Doom 2 and Heretic are still messed up.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this program a 0 because it's outdated or counterproductive. It has a weird disclaimer including that it works only on 90% of the wads.
In 1995 if you knew somebody who knew somebody who had a particular CD, you could play 27 levels of Doom in Doom 2. It seems to be more trouble than its worth.
To make a long story short, don't use this Doom 1 to 2 conversion program. I don't even think it's on the internet anymore. Actually, don't use any C or C++ progam unless you know where you've gotten it and you really know what you're doing.
