Hey fellow Wolfers, this is Milanor here and I've just made a 2 level demo of my first ever wolf3d mod! Very Happy

Since I'm still fairly new to making wolf3d mods (I've tried in the past but stopped due to life circumstances and school), I would probably benefit from getting some feedback and review on my work so far.  Everything in the mod is pretty vanilla except for some code changes (based on the code tutorials from DHW and Wolf3d Haven) and the maps I have created from scratch.  I have included a read me file along with the read this enabled in the options main menu.

Anyways, here is the download link to it: http://www.mediafire.com/download/cxg23yjda3l1cmj/Newbie_wolf_sdl_demo.zip

Pretty good classic levels. I beat it in 4:53 on first attempt. Smile

Thanks Chokster, and there is still more to come in the final version as I may introduce some more changes in source code as well as different levels, but still keeping the main theme of my mod to be for "newbies" and "newcomers" to wolf3d games in general.

Btw, which difficulty did you play on?

Great start for a first set!  Really has that Episode 1 feel. It is already way better than my first set back in the day was.

If you haven't yet, this is a great guide to study if you are getting into Wolf3D level making.

For these two levels, the best advice I have is to either increase the number of enemies on Level 4 difficulty and/or cut some ammo/health.  I made it through both levels with nearly full health and maxed out ammo.

I would also recommend more texture variation on the walls.  For instance, you use a lot of "Gray Stone 1."  Alternate it with Gray Stone 2 and if you want to go for a more upscale feel, Gray Stone 3.  Also, wall portraits, flags, etc really help add to the game.  In terms of static decoration its already very well done.

Thanks for a thorough feedback vault Smile I will cut down the amount of health and ammo items as well as add a few more enemies in the upcoming levels. I will also add more variety with wall textures and some of the bosses behaviors and drops will be different as well.  Overall, I'm still keeping the mod's theme, being a newbie friendly wolf3d mod.  I believe it would be easier than the original wolf3d in certain instances, at least not harder than it, and it's more of a introduce newcomers to wolf3d in general than anything Razz
