I haven't been to Taiwan for like... 7 years. I don't know much about the politics there. I do recall reading about Taiwan trying to open up more trade with China. The video seems to be saying that the sunflower is related to a march against that very thing. It could be a serious topic in Taiwan. I'm not really a fan of the sunflower being the official mascot of the protest though.

There is a long article about the relations here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-Strait_relations

The last I talked about this with my mom, she felt that tension is ridiculous and Taiwan might as well be China. I think that's a ridiculous stance.

Katy Perry accidentally supports an oddball Taiwanese Protest Empty I had forgotten to respond earlier

I had forgotten to respond earlier to thank you for answering.

My understanding is that there were 2 sisters.  One married Chiang Kai-Shek and the over married Sun Yat Sen.  They were Capitalists, brothers-in-law, and Taiwanese activists or politicians who were sent by Communist mainland China to Taiwan.  That sounds about right to me.

I know more about Hong Kong because 2 friends where there when it was turned over to China.  I did a report about it for a speech class.  I think that I might be spelling this wrong:  Jongqua Remnin Gonge Guo.  That means The People's Republic of China.  I think that Hong Kong means Fragrant Harbor.

About 5 years ago, I read an edition of The American National Geographic at my uncle's.  It had an article about rare Earth elements being used in everything from cell phones to electronic tablets to magnets.  It indicated that China's geology has 91% of The World's available rare Earth elements.  I said to my uncle, "China has 91% of The World's rare Earth, natural elements and 91 rare, natural blondes."  He thought that it's funny.  In China, you apparently don't have to worry about dumb blondes.
