    Post by Ipank7000 Sat Jan 18, 2014 11:02 pm

    Hi,
i just released my fourth mod and it's called Trilogy - iLOW3d.

So what is Trilogy - iLOW3d? Basically this is just simple mod with some features like:
    * New Weapons
    * New enemies
    * Limited amount of weapon carrying
    etc..

You can find it in HERE!

    So, give it a try
    I hope you enjoy it.

    Update:
    * I updated the map because it has very mazy secret in some levels. So i reduce them and you can play the updated map in "Updated Levels" folder.
    * (09/03/2014) Fixed the rifle accurate. (Thanks for MrWolfForever for reporting)
    * (10/03/2014) Fixed the secret on E2L6 in "Updated Maps". (Thanks for Thomas reporting)
    * (16/03/2014) Fixed the secret on E2L3 in "Updated Maps" and "holo wall" glitch. (Thanks for MrWolfForever reporting)
    * (16/03/2014) Reduce the E2L1 difficulty (by adding some goodies only, not reduce the enemies) (in "Updated Maps" only).
    * (23/03/2014) Fixed enemy placement in Hitler's Room (Both version of the map).

guess you made this mod too much tricky to play. its almost annoying to find keys and doors in correct order inside hidden walls.

episode 1 level 3 i managed to find all keys and hidden treasure / weapons but could not find end elevator to finish level. can you try it once and find yourself ?

Sorry for being annoying  Crying or Very sad  but it's my style of mapping which sometimes i hide one or two keys and very hard to find but you don't need the hidden key to finish the levels. Some secrets are mazy and sometimes you must push it in correct direction.

Why you can't find the elevator?
    Spoiler:

Yes i try it twice. First, i try it individually (single level) and the second i try from the beginning of the episode. Both of try i get 100% everything.

yes now i understood that. actually i didnt know that it is ladder but i tried to pick up as an object. teleport did not work though. our guy should stand at accurate point to go down the ladder. i guess you make the standing point somewhat easier for teleport. thanx for response Smile

the chain gun response time is bad to wait 2 seconds for bullets to come out  Sad

Some of Ipank's maps have many push walls in confined areas. You have to move them in a certain pattern to access rooms containing ammo, treasure, and even secret keys. Even sometimes that's not the case as you can move ONE certain push wall to get what you need from the secret room(s).

If you plan on getting 100% secrets and treasures, the object is to NOT box yourself in the secret rooms. There are still push walls you haven't touched when you find the goodies.

If you wanna cheat by looking at his maps on Chaosedit (which I did), it STILL isn't easy finding that certain pattern where you can get the secret items and get 100% secrets and treasures without boxing yourself in.

Cheating or not, it's all trial and error.

Congratulations Ipank, some of your maps aren't gimmicks for 100% everything fanatics like me.

Through the first three levels. Great work so far. Smile Playing on hard and it quickly gets tough as nails. Really can't see how any Wolfenstein fan wouldn't like this.

    Spoiler:

Also, ladder at the end of Floor 3 was no problem for me. Worked fine.

Love such mods. Fully oldschool Wolf3D mods are after all those years a bit boring...at least to me.
But I love those "clean" mods, that have just the right amount of new art and innovation - yet fully keeping the original feel and play, and so tasteful, like a fine wine...not "the more new the better"...only where is fits...and like with spices - not to overspice...the right balance...to create extension of original Wolf3D, something from that world... it just works. It's interesting to explore (without puking out the same blue walls over and over), and yet all this Wolf3D feel...

I think you should ease the difficulty back a notch then. I definitely had to find at least a few secrets even for his Spear of Destiny mapset from last year to finish it on hard. Don't let it spoil the fun! Is there anything else about iLOW (besides low health/ammo) that you don't like, or is the rest still up your alley?

I think, if Ipank is still interested, the rifles should be made more accurate on the player's side. Rifles are generally meant for long range in reality but don't work that well here. Maybe reduce ammo availability and capacity to compensate for this increase in power. I think it would improve the mod further. Smile

Post by doomjedi Fri Mar 07, 2014 2:03 pm

Finally had the mood to play this a little more...finally passed level 4 and am not far from finishing level 5.
Level 4 is the bottleneck of this mod, and if you can make it there...as Sinatra said.. - you can make it anywhere Smile
On level 5 finally got some ammo and health not to feel in NDE all the time, and the game is more...handlable. Learned the game a little more, how to survive, handle ammo etc.

Secrets in this are scarce or well-hidden. I'm usually bad in finding secrets, but only 1 secret in 5 levels...this is low even for me.

I get to like this mod more, despite the a bit repeatable mapping. In general mapping in good, some nice traps...
Weapon handling is based mostly on not using chaingun...who has ammo for that monster? It seems to be too ammo-wasting for this mod to be used...unbalanced.
I like the rifle, though not realistically executed...as it's damage is rather unpredictable and random in all ranges...it's less affective on large distances (which is contra-realistic), but also in close distances it's not a weapon of trust, and does pretty random damage, not a weapon you can trust.
Still, fun and quite a weapon of choice, having relatively good "ammo vs damage" ratio, especially on first levels which are scarce of ammo. Quite effective weapon.

Enemies seem to have much faster reaction time and less pain chance...which is challenging, sometimes their fire is unavoidable with such immidiate reaction.

You really can't rush this mod, and it forces even more for much more careful tactics and ammo/health managing and monitoring.

    Love the use of ladders.

On first levels you switch weapons all the time - but not because of particular battle situation - just because they keep running out of ammo. Which is good from one side...from the other side - it kinda makes them too much alike and "whatever has ammo I'll use". Less tactic or weapon-specific. At least till you gain more ammo to keep your weapon of choice on more constant basis.

Good mod. Some predictable enemy placing at times (near doors), but the mod is quite much fun and challenge, and it's most important. Challenging Boss battles. Quite unique mapping style I could probably recognize in the future, things like placing scenery in the middle.
Flamegun seems to be too weak for it's...."weight"...and in general.

Alot of thought was put into this mod, and keep'em coming Smile

Ipank, please consider lowering the difficulty on E2F1. My friend on Steam is so infuriated he won't continue his playthrough. You need to give more health/ammo for a mutant only level. I'm getting pretty upset personally about this. One bad decision and my friend is rage quitting. Sad He also likes to play without saves so please keep it fair that way not so luck-based.

Okay I've played a little bit of E2 when I wasn't on a slow burn over my friend quitting (and maybe he might reconsider). I think the issue is more like E2F1 is just not a good opener as it is, more than map as a whole. To be honest if I wasn't at least able to know the whole episode isn't like this, the level might have put me off. It's really hard to beat without saves, even with all the secrets, because of how much the mutants will just pop out and potshot you in areas. There needs to be more health, maybe slightly more manageable ammo outside of secrets. E2F2 on the other hand is a great level and I even finished it on first go without ever restoring a game and without finding a single secret. While it's not an 'easy' map per se it's far easier than E2F1 which really doesn't make any sense. Again (and as supported by what I have mentioned) I think one of the biggest offenses here is simply putting the map in a Floor 1 slot - this is not what a Floor 1 should be like especially since it (the mutants only concept, which is where the difficulty comes from) is a false signal of what the episode actually holds.

I have updated the E2L3 secret problem and "holo wall" glitch. (Thanks for MrWolfForever for reporting).

For E2L1 difficulty problem, i honestly don't want to edit it. But i'm afraid someone keep asking this because i will not doing wolf3d stuff until late April. I just adding some goodies and not reduce any enemy (in "Update Maps only").

EDIT: Check needs to be in GAMEMAPS file in 'Updated Maps' dated 3/16.

Never mind, there is no missing key. He just needed a little help finding it.

The secret weapon in E2 is kind of not very useful I have to admit. Sad It doesn't cause a problem, but I'd raise its damage to either 2x or 3x what it currently is. Right now it seems to do about the same damage as a rifle shot, and it is silent, but you also have some major disadvantages against the rifle: not hitscan, and doesn't go through partially-open doors.

Found another potential mapping mistake (not fatal) - the door at (47,31) on E3F2 is locked gold while silver would make much more sense. As it is you can skip the silver key which I doubt was intended. Still worth a fix IMO when you get the time. Smile

Bad texturing at a point on E3F4: (22,25) is an extraneous grey stone wall visible to the player.

Also according to my friend on Steam there is also a bug on E3F1. The game crashes if a flamethrower enemy opens a silver door. I may have a video demonstration to link to later.

    EDIT: Here's the video

    Game freezes/crashes.

Ipank - do you want me to consolidate all my 'bug reports' into a single post for convenience?

I might as well consolidate at least a quick summary of everything I've come across since your last update (some are previously unmentioned on here):

-E2 secret weapon, not all that useful especially compared to a rifle, increase damage a bit maybe
-E3F1 game freeze glitch; see video linked to in earlier post. EDIT 4/7/14: This also happened to me on E3F7 when flamethrower enemy opened a gold door.
-E3F2 has gold door out of central area (area with silver key) that is probably meant to be silver, as is you don't need the silver key
-E3F4 out of place texture, grey stone map background extended in too far
-E3 secret weapon, seems TOO powerful, make it cost multiple rounds or limit ammo type
-E3F5 outdoor walls don't make a whole lot of sense since you're descending a bunker already and the ladder to that area goes down. It would be much more logical if that ladder into the area (behind red key door) went up instead, make you feel like you're in an area a bit closer to the surface.

Several of these have more detail with posts on the DHW forum.
