Doom II Questions Empty Doom II Questions

    Post by Dark_wizzie Wed Dec 19, 2012 4:46 am

    Hi,

    1. Anyone played the master doom levels/other expansion packs? And thoughts?
    2. Is there a SDL equivalent for Doom? Will it be a pain to use WAD files that's not "SDL"?
    3. Are there any Doom WADs you'd recommend?

    Thanks! rabbit

Look up Doom wads by Laz Rojas. All are Wolfenstein themed, and are really, really good and contain loads of graphics and sounds not used in "our" type of mods.

I'm not sure I get the question...you mean Doom ports? There are so many (Doom Legacy, zDoom, Doomsday, GZDoom, Edge, Skulltag, Vavoom etc etc etc)...

Regarding SDL...AFAIR "Chocolade Doom" port is SDL remake.

Hmmm, the moving around with the mouse feels a bit awkward compared to Wolf3d. I'll see if I get used to it...

    << Hi,

<< 1. Anyone played the master doom levels/other expansion packs? And thoughts?

I bought Master Doom levels in 1995 or 1996.  It’s 20 more difficult levels plus a secret level.  All 21 are made by ID Software.  It comes with a shell source port and hundreds of levels that are mediocre made by people other than ID Software.  I thought that it came with PIMP.wad, which was 20 levels for Doom 2 and good for 1995.  There was another Wolfenstein/WolfenDoom level (I’d give it 2 stars), a buggy early Simpsons Doom II, Boxing Doom II, Chess Doom II, crosshairs Doom II, Wild West Doom II, a mod where the marine runs faster, and I thought there was Barney Ultimate Doom.  The other levels were less memorable.

Final Doom is 2 extra episodes of 32 levels each.  Doom 3 BFG edition forgot to erase the secret level 33.  A video game console version of Ultimate Doom came with an extra secret level for episode 1.

A source port came with 2 extra 32-level episodes for Doom 2.

I just bought The D!Zone collection CD of wads.  I’ll have to tell you about it later.

I’ve played and beaten Super Nintendo Wolfenstein 3D.  I don’t think you’d like Super Nintendo Doom.

<< 2. Is there a SDL equivalent for Doom? Will it be a pain to use WAD files that's not "SDL"?

I don’t know, but I think I’ll mention patches.  I thought it was Doom2.net where they have official patches made by ID Software and a version 1.91 patch made by somebody else.

<< 3. Are there any Doom WADs you'd recommend?

-Open up a non-German "Doom II: Hell On Earth" episode because of censorship.  The secret level to the first Wolfenstein level is off of level 15, I believe.
