I've just made a Wolf3D clone without the engine and I was wondering if this forum could accept non-engine Wolf3D clones. If so, then I'll put a link to it.

Well, it's in the Off-Topic forum so i say game on! I'm always interested in seeing new engines. Is it raycasting still or does it just emulate the Wolf look? Smile

It's a simple game based on the Mac version. Here's the link to the page:

I had a (really) quick blast this morning. I really like the concept - arena shooter with alien Nazis. That's always good!

I like the enemy sprites but I would look into the clipping. Being able to walk through the enemies causes them to feel insubstantial. Also, player speed needs to go up. You move pretty slowly - especially compared to games like Wolf3D or Doom.

Other than that I like the idea.

If you sort out these problems maybe more arenas with a little more complex architecture and uploadable hiscores would be good.

Keep up the good work, bloke! Smile

Ok for non-engine Wolf3D clones? Empty Hello

Post by stathmk Mon Aug 15, 2011 6:57 am

Welcome to the forums. I’m the webmaster of Wolfensteingoodies.com. I’d rather that you contact me by the email listed at the bottom of Wolfensteingoodies.com with Wolfenstein Goodies in the subject line than by Wolf3D Haven private message. That’s because I don’t want my private message box filling up.

One of the reasons why started wolfensteingoodies.com is because Brian’s (Schabb’s) server can’t post files of more than 3 megabytes. I think that your file is 3.92 megabytes.

I thought that when I watched your video, it said that it’s the Alpha version. When you finish it, email me, and I might put it on the Wolfenstein 3D Clones Dome at http://www.wolfensteingoodies.com/wolfenstein3dclones/wolfenstein3dclones.htm or at Wolf3D in Standalone Coding Programs: http://www.wolfensteingoodies.com/wolfensteingoodies/sp/sp.htm

I understand, but I have three things to say:
First, the site looks like it's almost empty.
Second, I think the problem about Schabb's server isn't that big because I'm more of a GM user than a Wolf3d player.
Third, the trailer is the alpha version, not the game (the game's version is 1.0) and it's only a makeshift one-if the game gets enough feedback and popularity, then I can make a better trailer featuring updates and stuff.
I hope it sounds okay if you mind. Neutral

I’m glad that somebody is being honest so that I have some more incentive to update more. I spent a lot of time trying to find every Macintosh Wolf 3D conversion and I’m still trying to find every Wolfenstein in Doom 2 conversion. I want to add RTCW, Blake Stone, and Rise of The Triad files. There’s so much more that I want to do on Wolfensteingoodies when I have the time. I was having some personal problems this year and I went a while without updating.

Whenever you feel that you're finished with your project, then tell me. Or if you want me to upload it the way it is now, then that's fine.

Sure, nothing wrong with posting Wolf3d Clones. In fact, I'm wondering if someone would do a comparison of Wolf3d across different engines. That would be interesting, I think.

Ok, I'm working on a sequel to Anvilstein 3D.
It's going to have new enemies, two new weapons, and gameplay will be more like the original game than the survival-arena type like its predecessor. Smile
I just need some ideas though. I'm making the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and I'm arming them with firearms and such(chainguns, rocket launchers, similar stuff).
What firearms should I give the last two horsemen (Famine and Death)?

Who can stand super low-res, 8-bit retro 8*16 sprites for enemies?

Ok for non-engine Wolf3D clones? Ss_kit11 (enlarged for convenience)

Something like that. I'm surprised to see how much detail I can cram into a low-res sprite like 16*32. What do you think?
