Mobster sprite set wanted Empty Mobster sprite set wanted

Post by wildweasel Mon May 02, 2011 12:02 am

Okay, so I'm new around here and haven't really taken much time to "prove" myself or anything of that sort, so it might not be such a good idea to make one of my first posts a call for resources, but I'm not exactly the best at editing enemy sprites, so here goes...

My first major Wolf3D project is called "Cosa Nostra", a total conversion that takes place in Chicago in the year 1940. The main character is a private investigator working to take down the mafia family responsible for a hit on a friend of his. The enemies consist of ordinary mob thugs (ordinary shirt/tie-wearing civilians packing pistols), professional hit men (actually RGamesInc's "Mesothelae" sprite set, replacing the Mutant), corrupt cops (in full uniform of course, replacing the Officer), and (the only one I haven't got a sprite for) the Don's enforcers.

Would anybody be so kind as to help edit a set of sprites for a typical "mobster"? He'd wear a long overcoat and a fedora, and his weapon would be the Thompson submachine gun with a drum clip, in Wolfenstein style, but here's the big thing: he has to be 100% greyscale (except for the "transparency" portion, which in my palette is hot pink on index 255, #FF00FF). I'd ordinarily do a franken-sprite edit of several sources, but I can't find any existing sprites at Monkee's place that have the kind of pieces I need, and I'm pretty rubbish at drawing things from scratch.

    Welcome to the forums.

As well as Monkee's site, there's also a list of game sprites on the Wolf3D Dome. Some of the packs include actors.

The link is at http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/sprites.htm .

Anyways. Good luck with the project.

Thanks for the help, Schabbs - unfortunately, I've already been through the Dome's sprites page with a fine-toothed comb, and while there were some nice weapons in there, most of the stuff seems too geared toward Wolfenstein-themed projects - nothing seems to stick out to me as being close to what I'm looking for, and my sprite editing skills (lack thereof, rather) may not be enough to shape them into what is needed.

Mobster sprite set wanted Empty Black and White Sprites

Post by stathmk Thu May 05, 2011 7:49 am

    Hello. Welcome to the forums!

You want black and white sprites? I’ve heard that somebody made a black and white Wolf3D or Spear mod called Drawn and Quartered: http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/adds_DEF.htm . The graphics are drawn cartoonish. I don’t know if that’s the kind of thing that you want though.

I had forgotten to tell you that Nexion made a black-and-white mod called Planet Nexion. You might contact Nexion and see if he's interested in helping. I don't know of any other black-and-white mods.

I really like the screenshot! I was thinking about doing a noir detective mod too, but it seems someone has beat me to it. Smile

La Cosa Nostra (1994) was a game created with GCS. (pie in the sky)

I hope Weasel's will be better! Very Happy

I've heard of Pie in The Sky. I've heard that it's underrated and that its company went out of business.

    ...and welcome to the forums!

We should start a separate thread for GCS. I have archived all of the early raycast versions, even a few demos of the later quake style engine. It was very capable program but the games made with the engine where often quite amateur. Currently Pie in the Sky software is trying to launch a comeback.

This book contains GCS. It works very well via dosbox.
