It would be nice to nice what might've been. The ROTT engine has a lot going for it and it would be interesting to see how Wolf 3D II would've looked.

As ROTT was intended to be a sequel to Wolf3D I presumed someone by now would have made a mod for it with Wolfy graphics. To my surprise, I cannot find a thing that fits that bill. Have I missed something? Is there a hidden repository of ROTT mods out there that I've overlooked?

Rise of The Triad
Look at the August 1, 2008 news:
http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/newsjul2008.htm
https://wolf3d.darkbb.com/dome-news-f2/wolfenstein-to-rott-converter-programs-t932.htm
Read here:
https://wolf3d.darkbb.com/search.forum?mode=searchbox&search_keywords=Triad&show_results=topics On one of the 2 links, I posted the names of some of the Wolfenstein 3D mods with Rise of The Triad graphics.
Have you heard the story behind the Doom 2 secret levels? ID Software made a Rise of The Triad level like episode 1 level 1 of Wolfenstein 3D. It wasn’t as interesting as they thought it would be or they didn’t have it done in time. So they made the Wolfenstein 3D secret levels in Doom 2. Then the Wolfenstein 3D in Rise of The Triad level was released on 3drealms.com or someplace for free.
There was a ROTTen Club on Yahoo.com groups from maybe 1999 to 2008. The moderators ended it because the popularity went down and they had received a lot of spam. Before it ended, we downloaded the Rise of The Triad in Doom 2 files and put them here: http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/adds_DOOM2.htm I’m going to have to eventually put then here: http://www.wolfensteingoodies.com/doommodsandclones/w3dindoom2/w3dindoom2.htm
Ask on the 3drealms.com forum if there are any Rise of The Triad levels with Wolfenstein 3D graphics. Also, do a search for Rise of The Triad or ROTT on their forum for add-on levels.
If I later find enough mods for Blake Stone and Rise of The Triad, then I might start a Blake Stone Dome and Rise of The Triad Dome on http://www.wolfensteingoodies.com/wolfenstein3dclones/wolfenstein3dclones.htm .
Send me your email address by private message and I’ll send you over the weekend some Rise of The Triad add-ons that I’ve bought on disk and CD at computer shows in about 1995.
I was playing Rise of The Triad with some friends. One of them was from Greensboro, North Carolina, I believe. He said that the Greensboro, North Carolina area is called The Triad because of the 3 cities.
I’ve just gotten an email today that Acord Games has released Gloom. It has 60 levels, enemies from ROTT, Doom, and Blake. It’s available at http://acordgames.webstarts.com/ .
I have The Rise of The Triad Player’s Guide that comes with the Extreme ROTT package. If I don’t remember to scan the 6 or so level making pages and put them online in about a month, then remind me.
I’m sending an email to Schabbs asking him if he remembers the link to the Rise of The Triad modding forum with him and Walmart_security.

Wow! Thanks for all the info, links and advice. I appreciate it all.
I did spend a fair bit of time looking around for stuff but most of the links I found were for dead sites so it's nice to find some living bits and pieces.
I'll have to try out the map converter tools though I'm not very smart with such things... *shuffles in an embarrassed manner...*
Seeing a scan of the player's guide would be interesting to say the least. I never used to like ROTT much as in my ignorance I always thought of it as a weak Doom clone rather than a sophisticated Wolf-based game. Now I'm loving it!
I'll check out the Acord game although I often find them to be a little bit of a mishmash with no real theme. Some of them can be fun though!
And thanks for the offer of the level stuff. I'll PM you my email.
Once again, thanks very much.

The mod 'Cover Of Darkness' by Liso1 and Mek uses a lot of ROTT walls. It has 60 levels (6 episodes). You can get it at http://www.belowe.com/cod1.zip .

Some ROTT Goodies
I had forgotten to tell you to go to http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/newsmay2009.htm and down to the entries for May 10th/11th and May 10th, 2009. There are some Rise of The Triad Goodies there.

The ROTT editing/modding forum has been reactivated. However, bizhat tell me it needs one new post a month or it could get suspended again.

Updates
I’m just updating you. Go to The Wolfenstein 3D Dome News and type Rise of The Triad or ROTT in the blank for some ROTT goodies like monks that I didn’t notice until yesterday.
Go to http://www.amazon.com/Rise-Triad-Official-Players-Guide/dp/1572800534/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1286980256&sr=8-3 and copies are for sale from $0.02 to $67.56 each plus shipping and handling.
Can somebody please explain how ROTT: The Hunt Begins Deluxe Edition is different?:

I would love to buy one of the guides but being in the UK Amazon won't ship here and they're not for sale on Amazon UK...
PS: I answered your query over at the ROTT forums.

Let’s play multiplayer ROTT soon
Let’s play multiplayer ROTT in December or January. Then maybe we could play again in the summer. Or if playing ROTT online doesn’t work then we could maybe play some of the other online games that I have listed:

I am interested in modding ROTT. That being said does anyone know how to replace graphics in ROTT? I've tried my best and have had no luck with XWE. A program I mainly use when editing Doom.

There's some wad editors listed at http://rottlevels.webs.com/editingtools.htm . One is Dos based but there are some Windows based editors listed too though, including XWE.

I am having no problems extracting things from ROTT but inserting new content seems problematic. What am I doing wrong?
This can't be any more complicated than adding textures to a Doom wad.

What about editing ROTT in Doom 2?
Rotthq.com or rotthq.org is down for some reason right now. Go to Return of The Triad Full V 1.5 for Doom 2 and see if you like it: http://www.wolfensteingoodies.com/doommodsandclones/w3dindoom2/w3dindoom2.htm#ReturnOfTheTriadTragos2d wrote:I am having no problems extracting things from ROTT but inserting new content seems problematic. I want you to know that El Zee and 5hfifty will eventually release a version where you get to edit it! I hope that helps. Maybe you can add in Las Rojas’ graphics from Astrostein, WolfenDoom, or these characters that I think would be good for a Astrostein-type mod: http://www.wolfensteingoodies.com/doommodsandclones/w3dindoom2/tutntgoodies.htm
I'll send you a private message because I have some suggestions for editing.

That is a fantastic project but I would prefer to stick with the real ROTT engine.

ROTT Player's Guide
I have the ROTT Player's Guide. It has some pages addressing making your own maps, but nothing about making your own graphics.Tragos2d wrote:That is a fantastic project but I would prefer to stick with the real ROTT engine.

EDIT: I don't personally know author Bernie Yee of The ROTT Player's Guide but maybe you can contact him here and see if he knows somebody who can help: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/bernard-yee/0/119/3a9
