Just wondered how others usually play Dos mods. How do you play them?

I don't play it anymore because I can't, really. On this netbook, the Dosbox cripples the hardware. It lags like crazy. If I get my PC back, I could play DOS, although it's easier to play SDL and just double click and be able to play the game.

I usually play them in Windows 98, which is on a secondary computer for me. Nice thing about Win98 is that you can play both DOS mods and SDL mods without any problems.
On my primary (Windows Vista) computer, I use DOSBox, which runs quite nicely for me, but I don't play them much there.
On a rare occasion I bring out a DOS machine for nostalgia purposes, and of course have to play a little Wolf when that happens.

Muahaha I don't play SDL stuff at all.ronwolf1705 wrote:I don't play them anymore, I only play SDL.
Usually WinXp with soundfx emulation which works better for me than VDMS. Dosbox most of the time since it handles most mods pretty well and it's kinda safe in a box hehe. And for 99% of the mods you dont need more than 800mhz to run it fine in dosbox.
Win98 (dual boot) sometimes, Win95 rarely. And when i have nothing better to do then pure Dos mode which got better fps performance than win mode.

I use DOSBox. I don't have a choice anyway as I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Edition and so cannot start any DOS based programs without some kind of emulation at all.

I always traditionally used VDMSound as I found it ran more smoothly on my system but for some reason it's totally stopped working and keeps bringing up some error about not being able to find some file or something.
I tried running the latest version of DOSBox again over the weekend and i still find it too jumpy and not as smooth as i feel Dos games should be.
