    Foxenstein Update
    Foxenstein Update Fox3sm
Foxenstein is an upcoming TC by Alex. The title comes from his nickname 'The Silver Fox'. Source code changes include four keys, destructable columns and barrels, a few new enemies, seven weapons, shading and textured flats. The last two features are optional, because they make it difficult to play on slow machines and/or DosBox.
Alex tried to make most levels huge and quite complicated, and he hopes they are challenging enough. Most graphics were taken from original Wolf (and some from other TCs), so the game keeps the original Wolfenstein atmosphere - at least if you disable textured flats and shading. The storyline is just like that of episode 3 of original Wolfenstein. Alex is looking for beta testers as a beta version will be ready soon.

If anyone would like to beta test this TC please leave a message in this thread. Alex said a test version should be ready in about a week.

I now have a beta version of this mod ready for testing. Looks like 42 very extensive levels. If anyone wants to test it out, the link is http://www.veracottis.co.uk/Fox3dbeta.zip .

I thought it easier to post the link to the beta. It's in the previous post.
One fault I've found so far is that the game crashes if you have the screen area at the largest size. Foxenstein Update Icon_sad

A new beta version of the game has now been posted. The game no longer crashes when the game is played with a full screen.
Saved games from the earler version should still work.
The link is still http://www.veracottis.co.uk/Fox3dbeta.zip .

Latest update on the beta testing:
I'm on level 9 with 3 three keys. No bugs found so far in this version.

This game is not working for me. I downloaded it, read the nice read this and then it goes to a black screen after the Get Psyched screen. Weird.

Thanks for letting me know. I've been playing the game with Windows XP and VDMSound and it plays perfectly. However, I just tried it with DOSBox and I also got the black screen problem after the Get Psyched screen.

I've emailed Alex about it and given him a link to this thread.

It works for me in DOSBox under Windows Vista. The black screen lasts about 2 seconds and then the level fades in.

I tried running the game in DOSBox/Windows XP again and this time I left it running with the black screen. The level faded in after about 30 seconds.

I then tried running the game without the shading - @ wolf3d noshade - and the level appeared without any delay.

I finally got it to appear, but it took over a minute, then it didn't even run on dosbox. Probably around 3 fps. Where do I get the version with no shading?

You can enable the no shading option by creating a batch file:
Create a new text file in notepad.
    Add the line:
    @ wolf3d noshade
    Save the file as Fox3d.bat
Put the file in the same folder as the Foxenstein files.
Start the game by running Fox3d.bat instead of Wolf3d.exe.

Level 30 completed (after much difficulty).

Level 31 looks a bit easier, but level 30 started out that way. Foxenstein Update Icon_smile
