Can somebody please explain to me what SDL stands for and how it's different from the non-SDL version?

SDL stands for "Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL)". Basically, it means that any mods made in this port are Vista-compatible and don't need DOSBox. It will also play the sounds/music on Windows XP without DOSBox. There's some info about it on http://www.libsdl.org .
Currently, there's only about 5 games made using it but I guess this will increase. There's a list of Wolf3D SDL games at http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/dosbox.htm .

The good news with this Stathmk, is that there are little memory issues meaning things can all be done on a grander scale. There are also many mods in the works in SDL to look forward to including DoomJedi's SonderKommando revolt, WLHack's new mods and AReyeP has announced that he is contemplating starting work on a sequel to Spear Resurrection and End Of Destiny to be made in SDL.
