I figured I'd go with a bit of a different timeframe restriction this time around. As there was not much heavy duty coding work done prior to 2000, most releases of the 90s tended to stay reasonably close to the look/feel of the original Wolf3D (even if they had a modified exe with them). With vast majority of popular mods to have a new exe from this timeframe now available in SDL, they remain easily accessible, even for those who have more trouble with DosBOX. So, what are your personal favorite releases of the 90s? I'd say don't list more than five picks, but if you can't think of that many, just list whatever you can think of that you liked. There are no restrictions, other than it can't be an official Wolf3D/Spear game (one that can only be purchased not downloaded) and it must have been finished before 2000 (no demos of mods that were released in or after 2000!).
Without further ado, I'll close by saying my five picks would almost definitely include Conflict in the Fatherland, Assassinate Hitler, and Schabbs 2000, and for the other two I'd probably pick one of Maarten Pinxteen's mods (Spearmpixsod or MPWolf) and one of Brian's mods (WolfBel series, but definitely not the first one). I'd also HAVE to give an honorable mention to Nat's Temporary Insanity (especially being from 1993 no less!) but unfortunately since you need a rather obscure Dos v1.2 exe on many levels from E2M4 on, this makes it less accessible and as thus I'm not sure including it in the top five would be right as such.
But what comes up in your mind? There could easily be gems I've overlooked, or just different opinions! So feel free to comment what your top ones are, I think it'll be nice to see what appears most often (if nothing else).
