Is MapEdit Superior over ChaosEdit? Empty Is MapEdit Superior over ChaosEdit?

Does anyone on here think that MapEdit is superior over ChaosEdit to make Wolf3D Levels? I do actually. At first I needed a 3D view, but now I realize that I do not. I am going to start using MapEdit and not use ChaosEdit anymore when I make maps. ChaosEdit is good for other things like importing Sprites, walls, and other stuff. etc. MapEdit includes endlevel and the Ardwolf sign in the Apogee version.

What do you mean by 'endlevel'? Yes, I had to add in Ardwolf sign manually so that was annoying, but I managed to add static objects from Wolf3d on Sod while I was doing that.

I still like 3d edit. You can't enlarge Chaosedit though. That is annoying on my monitor.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks so, although I have no issues with using MapEdit when necessary (like Blake Stone mapping).

I don't know how to handle WDC myself too much, but if I did, it would be my preferred choice.

I dislike WDC, purely because of its unnecessary project system. The actual map editing functionality of it seems good, though.

For mapping I have always only used MapEdit... I've used it for 10 years now, obviously it's hard to change things after such a long time. MapEdit 8.4 (actually, the 8.5 fix-thing Chris made) is my choice. And when comparing it to ChaosEdit... I don't know, I never really used ChaosEdit for anything but insertion of graphics and sounds and the odd re-coloring. There was a time where I used WDC though, which removes a lot of donkey work, 'cause it lists the directory files in images, sounds, etc. so you don't have to sit and insert five full sets of guards and such more than once.

What is the fix-thing and what does it fix?

I do use WDC for its error-checking tool. It helps find random mistakes like missing floor code, or random object in a wall or something like that. Might be helpful to use WDC for creating larger than standard maps, but I still use Chaosedit for editing. I agree with the unnecessary project system.

Floedit ya'll! Best stuff on planet Earth!  cyclops

I wish there was a way to make Chaosedit larger. It's tiny on my large screen. I don't need it full screen either, just larger. I'm looking at 3d Edit yesterday and that view is smaller than the Chaosedit editor size and all of a sudden I feel like I looking at the map in 3d through a slit.

I don't remember what the fix did, exactly, but I know that I cannot run MapEdit 8.4 on my current computer while I can run MapEdit 8.5.

And FloEdit is actually all right - I used that to locate and extract music chunks before I started using WDC for that purpose around 2009.

Floedit was the first editor I've ever seen for Wolf3d, back when I was still very young. The loading screen looked cool and it made me feel like I was cool. Cool!
Apart from that, I forgot how good the editor actually was. I just know it's a bit outdated.

LOL yes I ran around looking like this when I figured out that CTRL+C/V also worked in MapEdit:

The big thing is that it included tppatch.exe (Turbo Pascal patch, IIRC), which at the time was necessary as some faster computers could not start MapEdit without getting a runtime error.  Chris made it easier for the technically challenged to run MapEdit by incorporating tppatch into the program so it ran cleanly straight out of the box, so-to-speak.
