Iomega Zip and 3.5 in disk data
Matt Stath will clean out and probably move by this time next year. He still has old computers that play Iomega Zip disks and 3.5 inch disks. He wants to copy all of the disk data to the hard drive and burn to DVDs. If you know Matt personally or from the Wolf3D forums, have Zip disks or 3.5 inch disks, and can’t play them, then email him to discuss if mailing them to copy data is worth it. He’ll copy your Wolf3D or Doom files like saved game states first. He’ll copy data, and either upload it for you to download, or snail mail a data DVD to you. No very strange or controversial files, please.

Iomega Zip and 3.5 in disk data Empty The Doom 4 Demo is 3,472 floppy disks?

Post by stathmk Thu Jun 23, 2016 4:45 pm

Somebody joked that it would take 3,472 floppy disks of 1.44 megabytes each for The Doom 4 demo:
    https://wolf3d.darkbb.com/t3391-doom-2016-alpha-now-available-by-invite#29518

    OK.  Let's see:
    3,472*1.44=4,999.68 Megabytes
    4,999.68 Megabytes / 100 Megabytes = 50 Zip disks that are 100 Megabytes each
    4,999.68 Megabytes / 250 Megabytes = 20 Zip disks that are 250 Megabytes each
    4,999.68 Megabytes / 700 Megabytes = 8 CD-Rs that are 700 Megabytes each
    4,999.68 Megabytes / 1,000 Megabytes = 5 Iomega Jaz disks
    4,999.68 Megabytes / 2,000 Megabytes = 3 Iomega Jaz disks that 2,000 Megabytes each
    4,999.68 Megabytes / 4,300 Megabytes = 2 DVD-Rs
Or one 8 GB SD card, or part of one portable drive, or part of one online cloud storage.
