Weltgericht SDL Released |
Mega Luigi's and Mario Maniac's 'Weltgericht' has been converted to SDL by Andy Nonymous. There are 20 seamless levels that are extensive and well designed/decorated. Virtually all graphics have been changed as have the sounds and music. There are many code changes which include several new enemies, artefacts, extra keys, teleporters, exploding objects, timer display and textured floors/ceilings. It all blends well together. Available here. Vista/Windows 7-compatible. |

Re: Weltgericht SDL Released
Porting this, testing it, and fixing the bugs was an eye-opening experience for me. The mod is packed with features and is quite enjoyable. Lots of teleportation use. Maybe I'm overstating the case, but to me it ranks with some of the bigger mods out there, except that it lacks originality in its components - art music and sounds were taken from many different sources and "blended together well" but to me it didn't detract from the gameplay experience.
I worked on it on and off from November to April and to my knowledge all the bugs have been eliminated. Mega Luigi fixed up some art, and I noticed that the opening floor pattern no longer has the square seams in the grass, and the menu's gun no longer has remnants of the old red background. And Wolf4SDL's higher resolution has improved the look of the ceiling and floor textures immensely - something that stood out for me when working on this.
So I think people should give the mod a look, even if they weren't impressed the first time.
Some impressions of the DOS version:
Weltgericht (DieHard Wolfers)
Weltgericht (Wolf3d Haven)

Re: Weltgericht SDL Released
Playing this the first time in the DOS version sure made me open my eyes on how much the coding can be changed. Sure it lacks originality, but I don't care about that as long as the gameplay is great.
Thank God I asked you to convert this to SDL Andy.

Re: Weltgericht SDL Released
That was actually under my request to Andy. When you're done with this mod, make sure you play The Lost Relic and then the beta version of Shadow Genesis in that order. Big storyline between the mods.
