I'm wondering how many people on here have played any of the PC shooting/action (no puzzle or RPG-based ones) platformers (given platformers were not much of a genre to the PC). I listed some of the common ones that run on PC. Picks are unlimited, choose the ones you liked.
I listed fifteen that are probably among the more common ones.

PC platforms, what I have playing is Prince of Persia (great memories) and Aladdin. Modern platform games I have tried is Trine, Duke Nukem Manhattans Project and Ristar (though, that was Sega Genesis game, now is converted for PC).

If I recall, Prince of Persia is an RPG-oriented platformer, but I'm not sure - can someone clarify? (Either way, the 'Other' option fits for other types of platformers.)
I know Aladdin is by Disney, if I recall correctly.

Aladdin is a classic! I played some of Duke Nukem, Jazz Jackrabbit and Hocus Pocus (another classic). Jill of the Jungle I played a bit as well, it was alright. I also remember some sort of secret agent platformer.

I should note that myself, of the above, I have COMPLETELY played:
Keen 4-6: Way better than the first three Keen's. The first three always frustrated me (and thus I didn't finish them) in that ANY hit kills you and you cannot save in a level. In 4-6 you can save anywhere in a level which IMO is a necessity if you can't afford even a single hit. Of course the games themselves are good (this is ID Software, no less!).
Duke Nukem II: Sometimes the difficulty oscilated rather wildly from level to level and a few are frustrating, but this is a true PC platformer with no signs of being a console wanna-be at all. Each level sticks to one of many themes present in the game, but there are plenty of different themes. One of my favorites.
Jazz Jackrabbit: Lots and lots of levels (including the holiday ones!) and inspired by Sonic but I never considered it a straight ripoff. The change in scenario every two levels was enough to prevent repetition for me. Very fast paced, has some hints of a console wanna-be but I feel Epic did very good with this. I think I played Jazz 2 at some point, but don't remember it as well.
Hocus Pocus: Always liked this a lot, even if I'm not sure why. It is extremely cartoonish, that's for sure. Another game where the graphical theme changes every two levels. Underrated IMO, as I don't see mention of it very often at all.
Jill of the Junge, Part 3 - Jill Saves the Prince: It somehow is a lot more popular than the next one I will list, but I don't know why. I think it is significantly inferior. I don't like how if you die, you just respawn with unlimited lives, you lose no progress in terms of what you have killed/accomplished, and you can save within a level to boot. That just wipes out the challenge element. And there was one super-annoying levels that was like 100% concentrated with making one good jump after another, which was long to boot.
Xargon: Made by the creators of Jill, this is my personal candidate for the all-time most overlooked PC platformer. I always loved it. The music is really, really good, and Epic fixed what took the challenge out of Jill, yet rarely going too far and making it frustrating (a few times are understandable). It's a whole trilogy with probably at least 40 levels in varying themes. The emerald system is a great touch too. It's a game I have few complaints with, it has always been one of my favorite PC platformers, I have always wondered why it was never more popular, and what's more? It's now officially FREE! Get it here: http://www.classicdosgames.com/game/Xargon.html
Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure Episode 1: Only played the first episode to date. I remember it as nothing special, but still delivers the goods well enough.

Hocus Pocus is definitely my favorite of them all, I personally don't mind the cartoony style at all. I think that drew me to it as a child. But all those platformers I mentioned I quite enjoyed.

What I have finished is Pop and Aladdin, I remember played these games with brother and takes lots hours time to complete. Ristar was 1995 Sega game, but I got this year free from Dotemu PC version, but not completed yet. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 played with my friend, but never completed. Modern platform games I finished Duke Nukem Manhattans Project (was great), but Trine I just got in GOG.

Played AND liked.
Other platformers: That's why the last option is there. You can pick it and post about whatever you liked that isn't in the main list. However if there's a game so important that you feel it should be in the main list, then feel free to request a moderator to add it. I won't mind, excluding one condition: It HAS to be one that revolves around shooting or in some way killing enemies to be in the main list (it cannot be primarily puzzle or RPG-based, etc.). The last option, on the other hand, IS acceptable for any platformer of any type you enjoyed. (Also I'd prefer nothing Softdisk-related on the main list, because they are all terrible if I recall correctly.)
BTW in particular has anyone on here played Xargon? That's one of my favorites as I described and definitely the one I seem to be most "alone" on. But it's been made freeware so you can in fact legally play it at any time you'd like free of charge if you want to! I left a link to where it can be downloaded.

I would prefer if "One or more that I did not mention (specify)" is moved to always be the final option, makes sense that way.
Not sure if all the explicitly added options are shooting/killing based, but I'm not going to make a big deal with that.
EDIT: That being said, I actually have two requests I forgot myself: Rayman (the first), and Rayman Origins (was released this year).
EDIT 2: Wow I've apparently air headed quite a few. Two other ones I blatantly forgot: Captain Claw and the Earthworm Jim series. Would really appreciate if all four (both edits) are added and sorry for the inconvenience.
Oh and also I'd appreciate if the re-vote option is turned on so people can add in their votes for items that weren't previously there.

Can't find a way to change that...WolfForever wrote:I would prefer if "One or more that I did not mention (specify)" is moved to always be the final option, makes sense that way.

Isn't it your post you can edit yourself?EDIT: That being said, I actually have two requests I forgot myself: Rayman (the first), and Rayman Origins (was released this year).

If the poll is too "missing" - maybe it's better to re-make it, deleting current one

I can't edit a poll unless there are no votes in it. I guess for now just please add the additional games I mentioned and leave unchanged what you can't figure out to change. Dark_Wizzie might know how to do some of the extra stuff (re-vote allowance, etc.). But don't worry about it too much.

Thanks.

LOL! I remember playing Prince of Persia and Jill of the Jungle! I sucked at Prince of Persia, but I beat the first game of the Jill of the Jungle series quite a few times.
Though this game is not shooting/action based, Epic Pinball was my favorite pinball game of all time. The menu music and the music on some of the scenarios were SICK!

Posted a v2.0 version of this poll that I think should be much cleaner and give everyone a chance to vote with all the options. This may or may not be deleted, depending on if a moderater feels it should.

Mario Forever
I’ve beaten Mario Forever sometime before version 5 and I’ve also beaten Mario Forever Advance ( http://download.cnet.com/Super-Mario-3-Mario-Forever-Advance-Edition/3000-7433_4-10967737.html?tag=mncol;8 ) while finding all of the secrets in both. I really need to finish my Mario Worker levels ( http://download.cnet.com/Super-Mario-3-Mario-Worker/3000-7433_4-10594964.html?tag=mncol;1 ) to upload them to my web site and at http://zac-mario-worker-help-site.kk5.org/ . I received a December 23 email that Buziol’s or Softendo’s Mario Forever V5.01 has been updated or replaced with New Super Mario Forever 2012 V1: http://download.cnet.com/New-Super-Mario-Forever-2012/3000-7433_4-10344976.html?tag=api&tag=nl.t700&s_cid=t700 I noticed that it has a larger file and better graphics in the screenshot.
If you like Mario Forever, then you may like Mushroom Kingdom Fusion and other detailed, professional. fan games at http://fusionfangaming.spriters-resource.com/ . Read the stickies before posting! They are particular about that!
There was a Super Mario Bros clone on a computer that commercially didn’t do very well and is filmed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0HQOKmAPRA

It's Doom 2 in level 32. It's the super secret level. I think that Arcadia Demade for Doom 2 has the same Commander Keen sprite.WolferCooker wrote:Doesn't Doom have an easter egg of you killing Keen?
