So has anyone played this game yet? It got good/OK reviews. Some guy is saying that ID software is making lacklaster games nowadays. I think ET was good, and anything after is a decline, although Wolfenstein was good. I heard Rage is a fun game, but not very memorable. But then again, do we call Id Software Bethesda or Id Software?

Re: Rage
Graphic-wise they're still pretty great, but from what I've heard they have kinda lost their edge in the gameplay-department.

Re: Rage
I played through Rage twice on the PS3. Rage tries to stomp on its competition with 60 fps on the console and mega-texture game worlds. The gun fights can be quite intense against the mutants when they leap off walls and strike you from different angles. You can deploy your own sentry bots and it was always cool to have your bots alongside you fighting against the mutants.
The open worlds in Rage are fun to explore and the emphasis on vehicles and racing is new from Id. You can collect items, buy and sell weapons, ammo, loot, power ups and so on. You have a jobs dossier as well, so you can choose which mission to play next.

Re: Rage
As much as I love id I think they're a one trick pony. Looking back at their past titles most are playable tech demo's and are hardly what you could consider a finished game. Rage does nothing new which is playing it safe in my opinion. The game market really needs fresh ideas.
Nice graphics don't make games great although they are a nice feature!

Re: Rage
The game market is already saturated with titles like Rage and they are close to identical to one another. So I guess it was always going to be difficult for Rage (or any other title by Id) to stand out.
If I had any advice for the Id team it would be that they go back to what made them great in the first place and build from there.

Re: Rage
Considering the all to common lets "remake" a classic logic. (both in the game market and movie industry) I can imagine a Commander Keen game in the future. Do you think such a game could capture the spirit of the original and also bring something new to market?
I'd love to see a new Keen game. But if it sucked it leave me feeling sour.

Re: Rage
I'm sure there is someone out there working diligently on Commander Keen 3D. I mean Duke Nukem 3D was such a great success I can understand why someone would want to do it. I don't think you could bring anything new to the market with another side-scrolling Commander Keen, though.

Re: Rage
Personally, I doubt we will ever see a new Commander Keen game. Duke Nukem got a pass because of hype.

Re: Rage
You never know. A cool 3D alien shooter could be made with Commander Keen just for story. A lot of people have fond memories of this game.Dark_wizzie wrote:Personally, I doubt we will ever see a new Commander Keen game.

Re: Rage
Ok, here's a question. What would you like to see in a modern shooting game that has not been done before? Everyone is critical of Wolfenstein and Rage, so, yea, what would you like to see?

Re: Rage
One game I did enjoy a lot was Thief. The Id team might have what it takes to do a great stealth shooter/adventure game like Thief. It had a sophisticated engine and Looking Glass used that to do something new and interesting. Why can't Id do something like that? I'm not complaining a whole lot about Rage but it wouldn't hurt Id to take a few risks in their next title. Not sure whether Bethesda agrees with that thinking though.
