    Spear Resurrection SDL Released

The SDL version of Spear Resurrection has been released. Originally planned as a sequel to the original Spear of Destiny, this set by AReyeP and MCS is now nearly ten years old. The 21 levels have excellent level design and many graphics/source code changes not seen before at the time of the original release. A classic!! The conversion to SDL was done by Andy Nonymous. Available here. Vista/Windows 7-compatible.

Just as a sidenote since it wasn't mentioned in the news post and I feel it's fairly important: This is NOT the version with new levels/features that was advertised back in the spring/early summer. This is simply just the original SR under the SDL engine, making it playable for more. However, this is the engine the new levels version will use, and the engine's been given a facelift to support more features. The new levels version is planned for release in November, to coincide with the addon's precise 10-year anniversary. Full information can be found at the website - www.areyep.com.

Do we expect the next version of Spear Resurrection (new levels) to be constructed a similar way WSJ did with Totenkopf SDL? You know, new textures (wall and floor/ceiling), new weapons, new enemies, static objects, etc.?

No I don't think so (sorry), but the levels should be even better than the current ones with allowance for more features.

I have been fortunate enough to have had a chance to play through the levels that are set to be released next month. I am biased. I have to admit that. I cannot remember playing a level made by the hand of AReyeP that I did not enjoy and these new levels are no exception. Like all of his levels these are very well thought out and with the capacity to have extra guards and objects as opposed to the original, well... AReyeP just makes these levels shine. I get so immersed in the game play that I don't even realize that it doesn't have testured ceilings and floors. If there are any of you code-enhanced addicts out there you can always wait for the SDL version of EoD that will be coming out someday. A huge thanks to Andy for all the work he put into getting the SDL version released!!!

I took a good look at the maps and notice there is a problem on Level 10 (The Hiroshima boss level). The route to get to the secret elevator via pushwalls is blocked by a static object (a flaming lamp). It's in the area of Hiroshima's arena.

AReyeP should be notified of this.

I believe only the one torch that's blocking pushwall access on Level 10, Wizzie.
