This mod was released in August '09 by Schabbs and Arielus. It didn't receive much attention. But I'm about halfway through it and it's actually quite a gem IMO! So I just wanted to point out a link to it - http://www.veracottis.co.uk/DSLEEP.ZIP - and ask to see what yout think of this potential "hidden gem".

Re: Deadly Sleep
I might look at the maps in an editor to see. I heard that Arielus is a decent mapper, so I have been meaning to look at one of the maps from Arielus.

Re: Deadly Sleep
From which star did you fall? I was also in crazes when this was first released - I loved it through and through. Brian and Ariel were really such a strong theme. I think they should've made another one. Too bad this isn't available in SDL. Really one of the gems of '09 (and Heaven knows not many came out that year)...WolfForever wrote:This mod was released in August '09 by Schabbs and Arielus. It didn't receive much attention. Glad to hear you agree with me. As for SDL, not a big deal for me, DosBox runs very fine on my machine with core=dynamic and cycles=max.

Re: Deadly Sleep
I loved this as well, I've done a review of it that will appear on my blog sooner or later, I definitely agree with both of your appraisals of the mod.

Nice to hear. Would you mind sharing the score out of 10 (in a PM, if you'd like)?
If you mind sharing then it's okay though. I look forward to playing the rest of the mod.

Re: Deadly Sleep
I don't have the score on me currently, it's in a Word Doc. on my home PC.
I think I'll just keep it a surprise for now, it was fairly decent from what I can remember!

Re: Deadly Sleep
Well, I've tested it EXACTLY one day before you made this thread
It should deserve more attention, the maps are very good overall.
I give it a 8,7/10

I also like the wooden look of the status bar. Somehow it fits the whole theme.

Re: Deadly Sleep
It's too bad that it isn't in SDL, Schabbs and Arielus are two of the best mappers! I'm looking forward to the review, Dean!

Re: Deadly Sleep
Finsihed the mod. Excellent work. Didn't find any bad levels at all, Arielus and Brian clearly have different styles but they combine to make a good set of maps. I loved the last level, with all four Spear bosses to get the four keys, and then an "Angel of Death" area to finish. Five bosses in one map, sure makes up for the fact there were no bosses before that! On that subject, just about my only complaint about the whole thing is the music - the boss music should be removed IMO from Levels 5 and 10, and kept only on Level 16, the real boss level. But that's pretty trivial and a very good 16 maps overall. One of the gems in a year with not that many, and a shame it became a "hidden" one at that.
Anyways, I'll officially give congrats to Schabbs and Arielus for producing 16 fun levels.

Re: Deadly Sleep
Suddenly I feel the need to be the next Wolfingtime or Dean's blog. Well, I haven't played it, but I'm sure I'd pick up on that problem as well. Music is pretty important to me when playing a game.
