Load Laz Rojas’ Operation Arctic Wolf Special Edition in Doom 2

Post by stathmk on Mon Jun 16, 2008 4:10 pm

Laz Roja’s readme file wrote:To play the first 11 levels (MAP09-MAP19), you must load the following via Legacy's launcher:

ARCTIC.WAD
ARCTLEV.WAD
ARCTGFX1.WAD
ARCTIC1.DEH

Warp to MAP09 and start playing. When you reach the beginning of the 12th level (MAP20, "Shark Farm"), save your game and quit. Launch Legacy again and load the following:

ARCTIC.WAD
ARCTLEV.WAD
ARCTGFX2.WAD
ARCTIC2.DEH

Load your saved game and continue playing.
Command Line Parameters Directions

It’s very important that you print out and read the readme file because the game is put together a little confusing. Laz Rojas wants us to use Doom Legacy. I tried Doom Legacy V1.42 and it didn’t work for some reason. We’re going to first load it in the command line parameters. Unzip all the Operation Arctic Wolf Special Edition files into a directory named doom2wads\oawse\ . Load up Doom 2 in DOSBox 0.72. Quit the game and exit to DOS. Now type in:

C:\doom2 –warp 09 –file oawse\arctic.wad oawse\arctlev.wad oawse\arctgfx1.wad oawse\arctic1.deh
Or you could have all four files moved up into doom2wads\ and you’d just have to type:
C:\doom2 –warp 09 –file arctic.wad arctlev.wad arctgfx1.wad arctic1.deh

Follow the directions in the readme file for the 12th level:
C:\doom2 –warp 20 –file oawse\arctic.wad oawse\arctlev.wad oawse\arctgfx2.wad oawse\arctic2.deh
Or you could have all four files moved up into doom2wads\ and you’d just have to type:
C:\doom2 –warp 20 –file arctic.wad arctlev.wad arctgfx2.wad arctic2.deh

However, you don’t need to use Doom Legacy.

ZDoom Directions

Or you could download Nazi Auferstehung http://www.doomwadstation.com/main/auferstehung/ , which has Zdoom. Learn how to use ZDoom from http://wolf3d.darkbb.com/wolf3d-haven-chat-f12/play-wolfenstein-style-pac-man-in-doom-or-ultimate-doom-t854.htm?highlight=doom . Delete all the Nazi Auferstehung files in the skins\ directory in the backup directory. Copy the backup directory and have one directory with a changed name for the first 11 levels such as oawse_1\ . Have a second directory for the remaining levels such as oawse_2\ . Then have these four files in the oawse_1\skins\ directory:

ARCTIC.WAD
ARCTLEV.WAD
ARCTGFX1.WAD
ARCTIC1.DEH

Then have these four files in the oawse_2\skins\ directory:
ARCTIC.WAD
ARCTLEV.WAD
ARCTGFX2.WAD
ARCTIC2.DEH

and you’re ready to use ZDoom. However, if you use ZDoom, that means that you’d have to copy your saved game file on the 12th level from the oawse_1 to the oawse_2 directory.

Very interesting, but maybe in the wrong section?

Risen3D

Post by stathmk on Sun Jan 11, 2009 10:57 am

Update: I had forgotten to update months ago that Laz wants us to use Risen3D. I think that it would be the same instructions for Doom Legacy and saving in the same place, but with Risen3D.
