List: completely original mods (Total Conversions)

Post by Nexion on Sat Feb 07, 2015 6:40 am

There were some posts before which scratched the topic.
Anyways, apart from company made wolf3d-engine games like Blake Stone 1&2, Corridor 7, Body Count, Noah's Ark...
are there any full-blown, original fan "cooked" ones? For example a lot mods use the wolf3d enemy sprites which disqualifies them.
Some other mods have for example original graphics but use Doom music or Wolfenstein sound effects.

I looked around some and put the ones i found into a list. Some stick with the classic wolf3d theme and gameplay while others
are a - total - departure. I put in brackets the stuff that seems to be not original and is probably resource from other games, movies, etc.

    ======== Borderline / Close Ones

The list is eventually not complete and there might be stuff I have overlooked.
If you know of more mods feel free to mention them so the list can be expanded.

In the credits for Mutant Blobs From Uranus it says that the music is done by Adam Biser, so I think that one can be moved to Original Content as well.

Actually I wondered about that first despite that the intro sounds exactly like the Gremllins (The movie) theme. Also level 1 and 2 sounded quite familiar. Upon investigating it seems it's for cleaning the noise. You can read here that it's actually from other games (last big paragraph - on bottom of it)

Wasn't aware of that, thanks for providing the info.

DHW TC: from what I remember, this has all original sounds. However, the SS replacement sounds eerily close to the original one, just sounding slightly lower. It could be that all the guard sounds were re-recorded and this one just happens to sound really close to the original, but I'm not sure.

home made recipe - how to cook your mod

Post by Nexion on Sun Feb 08, 2015 10:22 am

Ah yes, Doll's House. I thought there is a newer version of it where things were replaced. I have only some old one from 2008 or 2009 on this machine. I'm not sure what's going on with it or if it's haunted by its own "Ghosts". A newer version was released but withdrawn because of some drama?! After this it was/is only available for people asking directly or gonna be re-re-released with everything changed.... or something like that.
I moved it to uncertain status for now.

DHW TC: If it has 2-3 sounds left or so it would be ok to move it up in my opinion. Indeed the sounds are quite close so I'm not sure if they are newly recorded, heavily changed.. and the readme doesn't say much about it.

It looks like Poet's going to release a new version of the game, replacing all remaining Wolf graphics: http://diehardwolfers.areyep.com/viewtopic.php?t=6818

As for all the drama (graphics were taken without permission), I believe that's why the earlier version of ADH got withdrawn and we'll be getting the new version.

As for DHW TC, I believe actually that most if not all sounds are new actually. From memory, I joined in really late in the project to help finish it (I made level 2 and did the sounds for one of the bosses). Since those were the only sounds 'left open' at the time, it makes me think that the sounds actually are all new. But I'm not 100% sure.

Do It Yourself - Manual and Instructions sold seperated

Post by Nexion on Tue Feb 10, 2015 7:53 am

I skimmed over the 19 pages of the DHW TC topic and the information is bit vague due to the long development. There are some bits like this one indicating the sounds were made by Loki.

good list. wolf mods based on doom engine are good (Klooni SDL and related extensions i listed here). SOD reloaded also nice.

    Klooni
    Code:
    http://www.kfhgames.com/projects.php?project=klooni_-_a_doom_clone

Erebus ( an extension for Klooni)
    Code:
    http://www.kfhgames.com/projects.php?project=excursion_to_erebus_-_a_klooni_mapset

Demonoid ( an extension for Klooni)
    Code:
    http://www.kfhgames.com/projects.php?project=demonoid_-_a_klooni_mapset

Monthly Mapset for Klooni ( an extension for Klooni)
    Code:
    http://www.kfhgames.com/projects.php?project=klooni_-_monthly_map

Note that you need Doom2 or Final Doom original wad to play Klooni and its extensions.

Total Recall - The Doomed Steinwolf

Post by Nexion on Thu Feb 19, 2015 6:47 am

I think you mean wolf mods based on the Doom game itself : P. They have pretty much changed all but still are built on existing resources of another game. A similar case would be "Mac-enstein".
