Witching Hour - now for Sega Dreamcast!

Post by Atina on Sat Nov 01, 2014 8:45 am

The Horror of being lost at night inside of a forest. It's one of
those dreadful nights where simply everything goes wrong.
The day sucks and you are stuck in the middle of nowhere.
Now all you got to do is fix your damn car!

    Anti-Time

It's a full game even if a brief one.
All resources were made from scratch (sounds, music, graphics, palette, etc).
The graphics are drawn from scratch in a new palette.

All together this game was made in 5 days.
It was a bit rushed towards the end so in case you encounter a bug imagine it's part of the horror.
It's intended as short fun mod based around a simple concept.

    You can get it here:

Didn't get too far so far to test the gameplay...but the atmosphere and environment is fantastic.

You are lost in the game and you are not supposed to fight the creature. You got to fix your car.

    tips:
Most items you find you need to use on the car to fix it. Or use somewhere in order to get item for car.

You know what could be useful? A list of items needed to fix the car in the readme file. But that's just nitpicking, it's a really neat little mod otherwise. Great looking and atmospheric.

Idea was to not tell player what to do, to increase confusion and horror atmosphere.

    Spoiler:

even if you cant read item list at least you can see number of needed items =p

Anyways, thank you all for playing game ><

Went into the forest and i found Version 1.70 (same link in first post) inside of it.

Forest gnomes put some work into it, planted plants, shoveled earth and smoothened the whole floor.

Biggest change is the new survival mode that tries to keep scared forest walkers with some special effects from getting a highscore. Another new thing are npcs and that you can smash your nose into earth sometimes.

    List of new things:
    Spoiler:

-survival mode which is activated after beating the normal mode
-npcs for survival mode only which need to be saved
-short animation when a npc is put into the car
    -random effects for survival mode

    -"wasd" controls possible with mouse
-you can trip over branches occasionally on the floor when running
    -180-degree quick-turn key
-y-axis movement of the mouse is disabled

-graphical update for all floor textures to make it more smooth
-about 79 graphical changes (updates or new graphics)
-game crash fixed and minor ai fixes
    -map updates + fixes
    -new sound effects

-parts of the car need to be fixed seperatedly
-npc next to car giving hints in normal mode (use-key)
-item/npc can be dropped with the "use"-key
-grass is animated if you step on it

    New screenshots:

The shortness of the game combined with not knowing what to do really worked for me.Loved the atmosphere/art. It is nice seeing something that isn't overdone (and yes gentle reader, I am as guilty of that as anyone). Enjoyed the videotoo!

Your accent is really not that bad at all Wink Best part of the video is when the monster slightly startled you.. it tends to do that Laughing

Thanks but i think it must have killed Wizzie oO

Managed to find some Blair Witch footage of someone else in the next forest. The first one surely has a dramatic ending but did anyone make it out alive?

    I'm dead.

Now I'm undead. Or maybe I was all along.

No, it's just that I'm not used that that accent. It's definitely intelligible.

News flash. Witching Hour is now available on... Calculator Very Happy

Gameblabla made a port of Witching Hour for, yes, a calculator. It's the first ever Wolf 3D mod ported onto such "console" ><
Unfortunately i do not have TI-Nspire calculator so i got to believe the photos that it works. Maybe someone here would happen to have such hardware and would like to give it a try:
