    Monkeeworks October 2015 Update

Post by Majik Monkee on Sun Oct 19, 2014 8:39 pm

Hey, folks, it's me, Majik Monkee again. I know I haven't released anything for a while thanks to *ugh* real life responsibilities, but that doesn't mean I've been completely inactive Wolf-wise. Here are a few projects in the works currently, I don't have projected release dates for them yet, but at least one of them is already done, and another is right on the verge of being released. Anyway...

First up, with it being October, the spookiest time of year, it seems only right to contribute something spooky. I released my survival horror mod, "The Black House" last year on another forum, and a link was posted on Dean's Wolf3D Blog, but it seems to be inactive now. So basically this project is done already, but for those of you who missed it, I'll make sure there's a working link in case you want to give it a whirl...

Next up, I've been working on a mod called "Unfinished Business" for a while now, which will conclude the storylines for pretty much all of the mods I've done in the past ten years (with a couple exceptions). The mod will be four levels long, and as you can see, I'm going old-school with the look of the mod, since that's been a theme of all the mods leading up to it. I don't want to say too much else about it though...

Finally, Monkeeworks is pleased to (almost) release a sequel ten years in the making, thanks to the combined efforts of myself and primarily, my brother Pete (also known for his"Hallowolf" demo). This mod is finished except for a couple music tracks and some menu elements, and I'm pleased to say that despite Pete doing the bulk of the development, it perfectly realizes the vision I had for a sequel to the mod this one continues...

That's pretty much a wrap for now! Stay tuned for more updates hopefully, time permitting! What a Face

I especially dig the bottom shot. Real nice work... It's always good to know Majik is working on something - looks both challenging, well-made as well as fun - that's the important part.

Thanks, guys, I very much appreciate it! And thank YOU for helping keep the community alive while slackers like me fall into obscurity every so often! Laughing Laughing

I've only just begun to look at some of the mods I've missed and forthcoming offerings as well, it does look like there's a lot for me to look forward to, the sucky part is usually when I'm working on a mod, I intentionally limit what I get to play so I keep my own ideas "pure"...otherwise I might be tempted to borrow something cool I see.

Oh, and I guess it's not too big a mystery, that bottom mod pictured is "Hundscheisse 2", the sequel to the original I pitched like ten years ago while the first was still in development. Talk about your lengthy delays... tongue

As you wish! Here's a very brief description too, taken from the manual...

"In the remote woodlands of New England, there is a place where birds do not sing. Squirrels do not play amid the branches of towering trees, snakes and lizards do not slither along the forest floor. It is this expanse of land that God's creatures, by instinct, avoid, and have for a millenia, for reasons that the human senses cannot comprehend. Sometimes, a place itself can be "wrong"...a place can be a black place..."

Huge thanks to Andy Nonymous for hosting this for me! Hope everyone enjoys the mod! I left it unchanged from last year, I thought about making some modifications but I'm happy the way it is!

thanks. i felt little bit of doom , prince like atmosphere when playing this. i read lately that it is only one big level and difficult to play. if so i restart game using those tips. Smile i wish there would be more levels like this in next mod.

Yeah, I guess I should have explained what I meant by "survival horror" a little better. This mod is more challenging than some, it requires quite a bit of strategy and avoiding combat in some situations, and forces the player to either conserve ammo or find as many secrets as possible. It's winnable though, I promise!

He dies. There's actually enough ammo in the game to kill him. That's really the only objective of the mod.

Well, I wish I had better news, but currently, my own projects are being put on hold indefinitely...AGAIN. This time though is only partly due to lack of time on my part. My son did something to my computer to slow it down, and when my wife reinstalled Windows (yech) 8, all of my editing software and some of my more recent work on my projects went kaput. The amount of time required to get everything up and going again and to redo the work that was lost has been more than I've had available, so as of now, nothing is happening.

The sequel I mentioned in the original post, Operation Hundscheisse 2, is in limbo...AGAIN. My brother was the one heading that project, and as anyone could probably have predicted, development died in the final lap (seriously, I think there was just a couple tunes that needed tweaking and some coding changes to test). I haven't heard from him in a while, but don't get your hopes up.

Not a great way to start the year from a modding perspective... No

Still on level 1 - but this looks like a very interesting mod. Spooky, immersive, consistent artwise, nice little sprite edits...
Wolf3D modding is really diverse which is great.

Mutant Strike: Unfinished Business (my mod that's been in development procrastination hell for the past couple years) is now 99.9999999% complete. Just waiting on par times from my mapper. That is all. Laughing
