(RELEASE) Operation: Nighthawk Empty (RELEASE) Operation: Nighthawk

    Post by reflex17 Sun Feb 09, 2014 11:46 am

I've been working on a map set for the original SoD - "Operation: Nighthawk", a 6 level demo which tries to remix the storyline of the original. I wanted to stick to the base theme and textures, and each level is meant to be a re-vision of the same one from the original game. All 6 maps are 100% custom-made but I've tried to make them vaguely similar in layout/textures to the original SoD in an 'expanded remake' sort of way... B.J is smuggled into the castle by resistance members and has to single handedly infiltrate the lower tunnels on his way to the top of the castle.

Attachment - game files and .txt

Operation: Nighthawk consists of these levels:

    Map 01. Entryway
    Map 02. Catacombs
    Map 03. The Gatehouse
    Map 04. Treasure Vaults
Map 05. The Hall of Knights
Map 19. The Royal Crypts [Secret]

    Screenshots:
(NOTE: Please excuse some for the poor quality, I only noticed after they were all taken.)

    Click level names to expand:

    MAP01 - ENTRYWAY:

    MAP02 - CATACOMBS:
    MAP03 - THE GATEHOUSE:

    MAP04 - TREASURE VAULTS:

MAP05 - THE HALL OF KNIGHTS:

    SECRET - THE ROYAL CRYPTS:

Just to be sure: which files do I need to share so someone can play my maps in SoD? Only levels and objects have been changed, no new art or code... if someone could let me know that would be much appreciated! Smile

GAMEMAPS.SOD and MAPHEAD.SOD - these comprise the levels which include wall, enemy, and object placement.

Looks good! With only six maps hopefully you can hone in the time necessary to make them as good as can be. :)Then maybe you'll get motivation to expand it later.

Though, when is a release ETA? Don't rush it. But I'm just wondering because it's been two weeks.

Thanks Andy! I'll zip 'em up Smile

    I appreciate the feedback - thanks ronwolf&WolfForever!

ETA is very soon - I'm writing the text file at the moment which is usually the last thing I do...

Any comments I get on the 6 levels will help me when I go to finish making the rest of the campaign... I appreciate the patience, it won't be long now Smile

Yep! I've been mapping for a number of years and I try to put as much thought into it as possible - I've just now taken a little while to add a bit more health here and there, sometimes I forget that nobody else knows where everything is hehe... I want these maps to be enjoyable, but also provide a challenge for veterans who've been playing Wolf for a long time. I tried to make the maps in a realistic style while still referencing the theme of the early part of original SoD

Please let me know what you think! I take any feedback very seriously and I am always trying to improve Smile

Is a full replacement planned (eventually)? Or is this all you plan on for this set?

I've been trying to speed up my mapping for various games, and it's a good thing that wolf is so quick to make levels for - I blocked out the commercial levels in the game because I don't want to distribute someone else's work - but I left in the spear and the teleport spot on the last level for later use... long story short, I plan on making a full episode. A long time ago I had a 6 episode wolf mapset so I'd like to do that again too. Smile

Wow great review, thanks for playing and sharing your thoughts! I found all your points reasonable and I'll factor in what you've said when I continue on with the rest of the campaign... When I have a full set maybe I can go back briefly and retool these earlier levels for people who've played them before hehe

Much obliged good sir! *tips hat*
