Of course I know it's a 'niche game' that most people don't play, but that wasn't the point. After all, if that argument had actual validity, wouldn't that mean converting older stuff to SDL is basically a waste of time? Which IMO, it certainly isn't. :)Far from, in fact.

I had just made a false presumption that everyone who mods uses SDL as a base now. That's all.

I think it's a personal preference. I know people like ack and even Andy still like DOS in some respects, as well as Chris. It's just a personal thing. I grew up with Wolf in DOS and was initially reluctant to "update" myself to use SDL but it's just much smoother, better and more authentic and closer to the modern world than DOS (though not significantly) ..... I too do not understand why people would use DOS anymore, but I respect those who do, because we live in a time where past is created at a vast speed and sometimes it's unbearable.

There's also the inequality that some people get DosBOX to work better than others, just to add.

Ahhhh... Chris always gets me thinking  Smile

I'm grateful when sets come out in DOS format as I don't normally play SDL sets unless I am trying to test some game with which I've been involved.  I'll try to give these levels a whirl.

My question has always been more IF and HOW than why. If Ms-Dos v6.22 could easily work on a modern 2013 laptop, I don't see why not. Can you dual boot Dos with Windows 7/8? Would it even work if you re-formatted the hard drive then tried to turn a new laptop into a pure Ms-Dos machine (no Windows at all)? I wonder if current sound cards would be SoundBlaster compatible and/or if they have drivers to get them to work in Dos? I've tried running MS-Dos in a small (~30MB) virtual machine in VMW.are but it was much choppier than Dosbox. They should sell new dedicated Ms-Dos laptops! I would totally buy one. They have Linux and Chrome OS ones. Blame the manufacturers! Smile
Tell you what, all we need is someone with an influence starting a nostalgia craze. Put something with the main emphasis on DOS in some TV show, music video, whatever, maybe it'll become a memememe and have shit still photos with Impact written on them spelling out intentionally incorrect street slang or something, and boom! There you go. DOS all over the shops.

Think it's possible to dual boot Win 7/8 with MS-DOS 6.22. Here's the method:
    http://www.thpc.info/dual/win7/dualboot_win7+ms-dos622_on_win7_install.html

Interesting read. Gotta give it a try on a 2001 Win XP laptop we got around here Smile The main problem would reside in getting the drivers for DOS... :\

Let's think of a siggy... Well, I'd rather nap... :O
