I know I'm jumping the gun a month early of this, but what release thus far do you think deserves to be "mod of the year" (the best release over the entire year)?

I can't quite decide yet between Guns & Glory 0.5 or Eisenfaust Origins. They are close, I think. I settled on Eisenfaust though.

I only listed what I think by popularity what I'd expect to be the top five picks, but I included an "Other" option if it's not one of them (please specify in such a case though).

Finally, though not strictly enforceable, I would prefer that no one votes for their own mod (anything they had a significant involvement in). DHW SoD SDL is the one mod in the list that is no one's own mod IMO since it was clearly a full community effort. I don't think making just a few maps for it counts as it being your mod.

Vote on and feel free to leave comments! Smile

@Dark_wizzie or any moderator - would you mind editing this to allow a top two picks, preferably without deleting any already cast votes (just allow revoting so people who've already chosen can put in another vote)?

That would be best I think - so other mods stand a fair chance of getting into the action. Smile

And you can just change "release" to "two releases" in the poll question. Any other necessary edits, I can do myself. I just can't modify the poll portion.

G&G 0.5 and Time to Kill for me. Time to Kill because it has bloody good mapping. G&G's projectile based shooting actually gave the whole gameplay a new feel to it, one which I quite enjoyed. It was a risky move perhaps, but for me it payed off. It was nice to see someone step away from the classic gameplay a bit, and I think that deserves some recognition.

Well since I can't do a second vote I'll just vocally say probably G&G 0.5 although I have not played T2K or the DHW set. But there are so many things that mod does I love. The soundtrack is great, even if none of it is original (although those boss levels use remixes of Doom (II) tracks that I have not heard before). I'm with ronwolf on the projectile based shooting. It makes the whole game feel like something unique from everything else. A few people won't go so well with the change, but in this case I'm not one of them. Then you have good use of textures, shading, etc. along with good mapping, i.e. all the basic requirements of any good mod. Sure T2K and the DHW set are almost shoe-in to meet every requirement of a great Wolfenstein release, but they aren't going have features that allow a step far beyond it like GG and Eisenfaust do.That is how you get release of the year.

My only question about Guns & Glory 0.5 is: Why is it 0.5? Is it like only half-finished or something? I know there's the community set that may come for it, but nowhere do I see that the story itself is going to be expanded. It's also the second mod with the main name Guns & Glory. Little Cherub's release in 2007 (which, while completely independent of this 2012 GG, I also enjoyed a lot) is the other one, called simply Guns & Glory with no additional words in the name. Did Metalor want to call it 0.5 because he thought it could not possibly be as good as Little Cherub's release (and I don't think that's even true) and thus the 0.5 is simply meant as an admission of inferiority/incompleteness compared to the 2007 release (even if it isn't actually inferior, at least in the opinions of many in the community)? Or is there some other story behind things? As far as I know, the two don't share any of the same levels.

But it's not relevant to voting anyways, because I don't judge something by its name.

It needs to be something with NEW levels. New as in never publicly released before (creation date of the maps does not matter as long as it is the first time they were publicly released ANYWHERE).

Yeah, a mod is a mod. Even if the only modification is fart sounds for guns and wall patches with shitty lines drawn in MSPaint it's still some sort of modification.

If Chris' Weird33 had been released this year, would we be "allowed" to rate that (seeing that it's just an EXE)?

To answer your slew of questions, I called it 0.5 because it is technically supposed to take place before the first Guns and Glory. And actually on that subject, Guns and Glory (the first one) was originally going to be a re-telling of the original Wolfenstein, but eventually turned into what it is today, so 0.5 was a way for me to revive that idea. Of course in the process, the story or continuity of the Guns and Glory "series" has become muddled, so they can be considered seperate entities altogether.

Also, Little Cherub and Metalor are one and the same. Ian Summerfield for those still confused. I've never been too good about names, so I decided to change my name at some point (though G&G0.5 is credited as being made by neither Little Cherub or Metalor, and is instead credited to Ian Summerfield).

As for the mapset I was hoping to make/release, I wanted to make a game base that was unique and then see what my fellow modders could come up with a create with that base, but obviously too few really took an interest in it. The one level I have gotten for it so far is very good and I'm currently expecting one more. Perhaps I'll condense the release to just 10 levels and fill the void of the last 8 by me, but that's a project for another day.

As for my vote, I'd say Both of Team Raycast's mods are high quality. Goes to show how much can be done with an entire team over a single individual (though of course, don't count out the individual modder either!)
