    Post by Dark_wizzie Mon Dec 03, 2012 5:08 pm

For me it is college time since last summer, took English 1A (college level), got out with an A-. Right now I'm taking Math 1A (First part of Calculus AB), Microeconomics, and Mandarin 1. Math is a B+, which I desperately hope I can push to an A-... (there is a HUGE gpa difference between those two in my school), Microecon is a question mark, although I think I could possibly push it to a flat A, and MAND I think is also a contender for a flat A. I've never been the good student, and all of the intelligence in the world will go straight into the trash if no effort is put in. A real tragedy.

At first I wanted to follow my brother and be a Licensed Vocational Nurse, going through a 2 year private course with a certificate at the end. LVN probably gets 35-55k nowadays with all of the pay cuts. I eyed down Registered Nurse, which makes 60-100k. My aunt is a Nurse Practitioner, and makes 150k+ a year. But due to some unforseen problems, I jumped shipped and decied to go to an actual college. Right now my college has the best transfer rate out of all community colleges... but the damn GPA scale is a bitch here. I want to be an actuary, but the math required there will make an Asian weep. It makes Calculus BC look like cake. Accounting is not out of the question. Actuary pay can vary tons, from 60-150k depending on experience, accounting probably similar but slightly behind.

How is college life for you guys?
And if you're out of college, how do you like your job?

Never thought you can still get away with not starting/finishing high school and still land a job later in life, Thomas. You must have some very good connections.

Yeah you're right. It's just that almost all people who don't finish basic grade school usually don't have a half-decent life. You're definitely an exception. Not many people take similar paths like you.

Luck also doesn't really exist as a mathematical concept. And I thought Thomas was being sarcastic about the high school thing! Crazy.

and as it turned out, a software company nearby was willing to 'intern' me. And we haven't looked back since.

That company must be very loyal to their employees and customers. Companies today care only about money and nothing else.

I can tell you that working at FEDEX for 2 summers loading trailers, they don't care how hard you work. You gotta put in more work than your body can handle. And the fact that most of the time I was there the warehouse was about 130 degrees in hot weather and even more in the trailers. You barely have time to stop and drink water. The belts are always jammed with boxes. The pay is pretty decent for a summer job, but I still despised it and to me it wasn't worth the effort. NEVER AGAIN.
