Which old Wolf3d mods should be converted to SDL?

Post by WolferCooker on Thu Oct 06, 2011 8:41 pm

This topic is obviously nothing new, but since we're seeing some old school Wolf3d mods (such as Spear Resurrection) are being converted to SDL, which old Wolf3d mods do we want to see in SDL? WSJ's mods are out of the equation because we all know he'll eventually revamp them all.

For me personally, I'd like to see these mods be converted to SDL:

    - Operation Todpfad
    - The False Spear
    - Rising Evil 2: Double Trouble
    - Halls of Stonehenge (both versions)
    - End of Destiny (we all know that's in progress)
    - Foxenstein 3d
    - Project Vertilgung
    - Nazi Operation

"Chemical Warfare", "Assassinate Hitler", "Operation Zeitgeist", "Chokage", "Operation Hidden Secret", "Countdown to Disaster", "Deadly Sleep" and all of John Bucksnort's.

Schabbs 2000 was/is in progress somewhere.....

It's not easy to remember all the mods that's been released prior to the SDL format's availability. I'll also throw in "Double Trouble" by Ryan de Haast, 'cause, honestly, that guy has never really been given a chance for the work he's done. And "Double Trouble" has some heavy coding!

I personally won't mind "Lost world" series as well.

Great mod indeed, Ron, but I never liked that invisible damage feature that replaces the extra-life feature.

That one, too. I have fond memories of playing through all the episodes, and it'd take forever 'cause there'd be the odd bug here and there. So many mods...

Anybody remember "Sensenmann"? Some guy named Mx made it - he made some more macabre mods too not in SDL, can't remember the names though.....

"Operation: Panzerschiff" brings fond memories for me as well. And it would be nice to see all of Laz Rojas' mods, functioning as they should without the VGA-bugs in SDL too.

I remember giving Double Trouble a go some time back, and I had some fun. So yeah, it goes on the list.

As far as I can tell, everything plays the same as the DOS versions for both games, but if you notice anything amiss... just let me know.

I've played up to level 9 so far of the SDL version of Halls of Stonehenge and found no bugs. Smile

This can be done just by inserting the game map files into the original game folder. Just download the SDL binaries and put it in your folder.

I know KyleRTCW is working on an EoD conversion to SDL, so those should be playable then as well.

Ronwolf, KyleRTCW released a beta version of EoD SDL a few months ago. You should check it out.

I don't know. I just cannot consider it the real deal if MCS hasn't had his hands on it. And I think Kyle's the greatest, it's not that, but... It's MCS' domain, in my mind.
