    Wolfwing SDL Released

    More Screenshots

Hellblazer has released 'Wolfwing SDL'. The mod uses Novowolf as a base and only the levels have been changed. The 10 levels play well and are nicely decorated. They fit well with the Novowolf graphics, sounds and music. There are two text files, one listing credits and one containing a detailed storyline, included in the zip. Available here. Vista/Windows 7-compatible.

I'm not sure if Thomas likes this. It's still NovoWolf with only reduced levels and changed maps. Looks like plagiarism.

Yeah, it's awful stuff, but what are you going to do? In my earlier days, I also ripped off mods that were already there.

I was told that most creators of original mods give hell to anyone else making a mod that is very close to the original. For example, I believe WSJ gave Ling Yan Li hell when Li made Resurrection of Heimzalung and Project Toteneisenritter.

Can you blame them?! Ling Yan Li also raped Schabbs 2000 in taking the original approach (which was really bare bones), mixing with too many sprites and ugly walls that were completely eclectic in the worst sense. The WSJ spinoffs he made followed the same ilk - too many sprites, too many different games, totally unconnected in one..... Not good. But you can't help but notice, he's got the coding all right. Make something original instead then.

It looks like it's getting harder and harder to come up with original ideas for Wolf3d mods nowadays. I just hope this isn't a sign of bad things to come in the near future. If I ever knew how to make a good Wolf3d mod, I probably can't even come up with original ideas myself either.

Then again, it's getting closer to a decade since ID released their Wolf3d source code. Ideas will run out eventually. Maybe it's getting to that time.
