    Doorframe Problem Empty Doorframe Problem

    Post by gengyu89 Sat Dec 11, 2010 12:15 pm

A problem exists in my map. One side of a doorframe disappears. It may appear again if I look at it in another degree. I don't know why this happens and I have no idea how to fix it. Who can help me?

That's a pretty common bug. I don't know what the technical bug is - but I've experienced, that if a pushwall is placed close to it, it tends to happen more often.

I think it's when you have doors too close to each other, not a pushwall close to a door. Maybe the bugs would go away on SDL.

    Doorframe Problem Doors

A couple of things can cause this when doors are places too close together or without ample space between. Take a look at my slack graphic...

Look at the perpendicular doors in position "A" as this is one type of phantom door (where door jambs appear and disappear while playing). You need more than one space of wall between perpendicular doors as a general rule.

Look at the three doors marked "B" and you will see another instance of phantom doors. If you have doors close to each other in hallways that have only one space of walls between, you will get phantom doors. The cure here is space the doors farther apart (like 2-3 squares of space between).

Now look at an example that does not have phantom doors:

    Doorframe Problem Doors2

One other thing to remember. When you have pushwalls near doors you have to be careful what spaces they open up and what spaces they fill, especially in regards to nearby doors.

    Hope this helps

Did they fix this on SDL? You'd think with a whole new code rewrite this would be fixed...

It is fixed in SDL. There was one instance in Mac-enstein Second Encounter (DOS version) where I had this bug. I then applied a DHW tutorial by BrotherTank for disappearing door sides.

When I converted Mac-enstein Second Encounter to SDL, I didn't need BrotherTank's fix anymore.

Yes, really. Just like what you said, master.
And I found another good way to solve it. See the picture.
