wolf - The Wolf 3d Blog Empty The Wolf 3d Blog

Post by Dean Wed Nov 03, 2010 7:22 pm

Hi Everyone, I started a Wolenstein 3d blog about 4 years but had abandoned it for a couple of years up until a month or so ago when I've started writing on it again.

I'm updating it roughly bi-weekly at the moment and talking about all things Wolf that I'm doing, playing and working on.

The link is in my signature but you can also access it HERE if you are interested. I hope you all enjoy it.

Please leave some feedback either there, or here, if you like or have any suggestions of anything you'd like to see on the blog.

It's always nice to read about the development and the thoughts there of regarding my favourites games. I've happily added this to my bookmarks as well. Smile

As far as feedback goes, I think it's grand the way it is. It's 'only' a blog after all and if you post regularly I think that's your end of the bargain fulfilled! Regular and informative posts with the occasional video and link is all I need from a blog. Keep up the good work - I know it can be a burden sometimes. I started a blog about a year ago thinking I had a lot to say but after a couple of months I just couldn't think of anything!

Thanks everyone, there has been a lot of hard work put in by quite a few people.

If you look at all the screenshots I've posted over the last few weeks, you can see how different the weather effects are, things like this is part of why this has taken so long.

We are really trying to give the player a full emmersion into the mod and it's environments.

EDIT: Oh, and you should add your blog site to your signature. Would make things easier for ppl. It's all about getting traffic...

@Dark Wizzie - Sure, I write a review of every mod i complete and have about 12 sitting there but I'll only post maybe 1 a week. I'll definitely play through SHS once I've finished playing through Schabb's 'Revival of Memories' and then WUB2 Smile

I already have a review of WUB1 that I can post but if Jayngo is going to have an SDL version coming out soon I might wait until then.

@Jayngo - Thanks for the suggestion, i'll add one!

Zombie_Plan has returned and posted a new review also, you can read it at Wolfing Time

Hmm. I am intrigued to see your review Dean. You know, you could always release your Dos review of WUB now, then do an SDL version down the road. Kinda like a review for a Game of the Year Edition. That's what happens in the video game market nowadays. Very Happy

Besides, my SDL release may still be a ways away. All depends on how much trouble I run into converting everything...

Nice idea Dean. Funnily enough I was thinking of doing something similar for the Doom scene. I was first thinking of ROTT but there's just not enough active people - I'd run out interviewees after a month!

Do you intend to ask the same questions for your interviews or will you tailor them to different people? I wouldn't mind at all if you used the same template I'm just curious. It's always nice hearing people talking about something they enjoy and care about - and it doesn't surprise me that Schabbs was the first in line!! Well done. Smile

Thanks for the nice words everyone, and thanks for leaving a comment Jayngo!

As for the questions I ask, well about half will be the same but the other half will change up each time to ask more specific questions of each person in relation to their mod work, collaborations and the like.

I have already received the second persons answers and it should make for a very interesting read for everyone. It's someone every person knows about in the Community, but I'll keep it a surprise until I post it later next week.

I'll probably do 1 a week, it's been so kind of the people I've asked to be involved in this.

I've downloaded the easy version and can actually get out of the first area on the hardest difficulty now so I'll certainly play through it completely when I get a chance.

I think you should be pretty happy with a 6/10. Dean has played *a lot* of wolf3d mods so I'm pretty sure he knows what a good mod needs. Since your mod has a sufficient grade, that means it's good but has some flaws. Maybe you can take a look at the dislikes Dean noted. Besides, Dean was also really positive about you as a modder Jayngo. Smile

Not correct - 5/10 is half way and still passing... and where I come from a 'D' (not that that's how I look at WUB1!) is still a pass.

RonWolf nailed it perfectly, the vote is based on a number of factors and those, both good and bad, that I try to clearly outline in the review. Giving a number is hard because everyone already has their own opinion of the mod and what they think it's worth. I'd be shocked if anyone's first mod was ever good enough to be a 9 or a 10.

I felt the review for WUB1 was quite positive actually for what the mod was.

I have to be honest though, I probably am a hard marker but I'm full of praise when it's there to be given and I'm never going to be deliberately mean about anyone's mod, unless they've shown absolutely no effort whatsoever.

Believe me there are a lot of bad mods out there, wait until I review some of them and see what I give them!

Dark_Wizzie - a review of SHS appearing is a very long way off, I have at least 10 more reviews that I'd previously written to post before yours goes up.

I'll be posting the next 'Wolfer Q & A' feature tomorrow. It's a very interesting one, well worth a read IMO. Smile

I'd rather have Dean's scoring philosophy. As he says he's generally pretty positive if someone has worked hard but if everything was scored too highly where is there left to go? Anyway, one day a mod will get a 10 and you'll know you're in for something really special! Smile

    New Mod review up today.

I will be doing more Wolfer Q&A's as well in case anyone was wondering. i have questions with a couple of Wolfers at the moment and just waiting for them to get back to me. I don't rush anyone so when they get around to filling them in and sending them back is when I post them.

Hopefully everyone has been enjoying the reviews.
