GZDoom as a base Empty GZDoom as a base

    Post by Dr.Zin Thu Aug 12, 2010 6:59 am

I am not sure if any of you are familiar with the GZDoom platform (it is the openGL version of ZDoom, a popular DooM port). Needless to say it has gotten to a point where you can make just about any sprite based FPS with it, including Wolf3d. At the moment I am considering it as the base for my own Wolf3d game as it offers a massive amount of functionality. I'll have things like super-enhanced DooM sector lighting, transparencies and a scripting engine which makes it the most open ended platform for this kind of game. If you ask me it is probably the best option of any beyond the SDL port of Wolf3d (if you like C++, which I do, but considering it is part of my real life job, I like to avoid it during off-time).

    Anyone else considered doing this?

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!

GZDoom as a base Empty Links and info

Post by stathmk Thu Aug 12, 2010 10:18 am

    Welcome to the forums.

I have almost no experience editing in Doom or Doom 2.

My unfinished page of Wolfenstein 3D in Doom and Doom 2 conversions is at http://www.wolfensteingoodies.com/doommodsandclones/w3dindoom2/w3dindoom2.htm . Laz Rojas has some good WolfenDoom conversions, but he uses Risen3D instead of GZDoom. Simbey and AFADoomer have a good conversion. TUTNT (The Ultimate Torment and Torture version 1.06 or 1.07) has a Wolfenstein 3D secret level and I’ve posted the saved games.

At http://www.wolfensteingoodies.com/doommodsandclones/w3dindoom2/tutntgoodies.htm , I posted some enemies and textures from realm667.com that I thought would be good for a level with a Halloween, Rise of The Triad, Wolfenstein 3D, or Astrostein theme. Ask for permission from realm667.com to use them.

I was going to post a message this summer to get members of The Wolf3D Haven and Diehard Wolfers to play 2-player WolfenDoom, regular Doom, regular Doom 2, Rise of The Triad, Duke Nukem 3D, RTCW Enemy Territory, The Wheel of Time Demo, or other 2-player games with me, but I was busy. We might do that over Christmas vacation or next summer.

GZDoom as a base Empty Wolf3D in Doom 2 submission

Post by stathmk Thu Aug 12, 2010 10:26 am

I went and read your other posts. I thought you typed that you are making a Doom 2 project called Blackwolf. Brian from http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/news.htm isn't going to host Wolfenstein 3D in Doom 2 files on his server anymore because I will be taking over the project at Wolfensteingoodies. My email is
    s t a t h m k @ y a h o o . c o m when you are ready to submit Blackwolf. Just be sure to put Wolfenstein Goodies in the subject line because I get a lot of spam.

GZDoom as a base Empty Re: GZDoom as a base

    Post by Dr.Zin Thu Aug 12, 2010 11:33 am

    I wrote GZDoom https://wolf3d.darkbb.com/wolf3d-haven-chat-n-guestbook-f12/yo-t1692.htm#13290

It is essentially the DooM engine with its graphics engine ripped out, redone in openGL plus all of the stuff the source port ZDoom has (it is based on ZDoom code).

To play it you'd need a copy of GZDoom, an Ultimate DooM/ DooM2 WAD and a WAD or PK3 zip mod file. I don't think anyone even uses the WAD format now except when modding an original DooM or DooM2 copy, everyone has moved onto ZDoom, GZDoom and zips because its cleaner (directories! GZDoom as a base Icon_biggrin ).
