What kind of hat?

Ok, honestly one of the reasons I'm asking this silly question is because I received an e-mail informing me that the forum needed some more posts. However it really is something I've wondered. What kind of hat is worn by the SS in Wolf3d? Growing up, I always beleived it to be a military beret. But, on closer inpection I suspect it is actually a garrison cap. What do you think?
