Doom addon help

Post by SandieK on Sat Mar 22, 2008 9:44 am

The Village Idiot strikes again! Atleast, thats what i feel like with all these questions.
I debated sticking this in the regular 'help' area, but as this was Doom and not Wolf, here we are.

What, exactly do I do with the .wad files for new Doom addons? I originally thought just replacing the file would work, but it doesnt. So I kept it there and restarted the game and IDCLEV'd it to where it said the map should have been, with no success. Apparently the main Doom addon forum is long dead, didnt see any others, and no one bothered to stick a FAQ for noobs like me.

Help?

Doom command line parameter page

Post by ack on Sat Mar 22, 2008 2:36 pm

Here is a page that lists Doom command line parameters. You will see the one for playing PWADs under 'file' - hope this helps...

http://www.doomworld.com/pageofdoom/parameter.html

You can also try ports like ZDOOM or Legacy or whatever else is available. Google and you will find more.

Thanks, Ill check out the link in a bit. Found ZDoom and Legacy, and although they didnt work for the addons, I really like some of the effects theyve given to the Originals. Been messing with this for awhile, and I atleast think Im closer. thanks! Smile

Doom to Wolfenstein Conversion Questions

Post by stathmk on Wed May 28, 2008 9:05 pm

I'll check that out.

I think that this "Doom addon help" forum seems appropriate for my questions.

Klooni was just added to the Wolfenstein Dome in the last couple of days. I know about WolfenDoom, Doom: Legions of Hell, Doom: The Movie, Klooni, and Wolfenstein to Heretic conversions.

#1 Does anybody know of any good Doom to Wolfenstein conversions that you recommend? Besides obviously levels 31 and 32 of Doom 2. I knew of this really good web site for Doom to Wolfenstein conversions, but over the months I've forgotten the web site. It was about conversions with Wolfenstein graphics, unlike Klooni.

#2 I have another technical question. Does anybody why when I take this Spear of Destiny game ( http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=9968 ) and try to load its .wad in Ultimate Doom for Windows 95, I get a weird error about frame rotations? Suspect Or should I just forget about this level set made in 1999?

I'm not saying my ideas just yet, but maybe sometime I will create a Wolfenstein mod.

Edit at 12:20 am in my time zone: I've just found out that there are two WolfenDooms. One is by AReyeP and MCS, which I already knew about. The other is by Laz Rojas, and actually is a Doom to Wolfenstein conversion: http://www1.linkclub.or.jp/~clubey/New%20&%20TCs/wolf.TC.sequel.html . Before you click on the link, I want you to know that there will be messages about if you want to install the Japanese character set. I clicked on cancel every time and it turned up in perfect English.

You can also post your favorite Doom to Wolfenstein conversion web sites here. When I type DoomWolf into a search engine, it always seems to be somebody's username.

Re: Doom to Wolfenstein Conversion Questions

Post by stathmk on Thu May 29, 2008 8:34 am

This morning, I had found a good page. Go to the WolfenDoom (Doom 2 to Wolfenstein conversion) games listed here: http://www.doomworld.com/sir_robin/castle/reviews/
In Arctic Wolf, you get to go into a shark pool with submarines in it!? He's holding two guns at once like in Rise of The Triad.

Edit: It took me a little while, but I had found the WolfenDoom home page of Wolfenstein with the Doom engine: http://www.doomworld.com/wolfendoom/index2.html It has fancy statues in some pictures.

Edit on June 3: Here's another one: http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/3744/index.html

Loading Laz Rojas' WolfenDoom conversions?

I've gotten this one to work using ZDoom, which comes with it.

Hopefully, Wolfenstein conversions in the Doom 2 engine will be added to The Wolf3D Dome in a matter of days or weeks. We are working on typing instructions on how to get the levels running.

Many of these conversions are by Laz Rojas. As of today, Laz Rojas hasn't answered my email about WolfenDoom. I was able to get Operation Arctic Wolf Special Edition running using command line parameters. You need to first read the file that comes with the game to know what level to warp to and where to save.

Not all of the games load using command line parameters. Some of the games have info similar to, "You need Doom Legacy, PrBoom, WinMBF, or MBF to get these files running." I tried Doom Legacy and PrBoom and I can't get them to work.

How do you use Doom Legacy, PrBoom, WinMBF, or MBF to get these WolfenDoom files running? MBF must be Marine's Best Friend.

I've been trying out some of the Doom 2 Wolf3D conversions using ZDoom and they work fine. I simply drag the games wad file onto the ZDoom exe and they work.

However, I've had a problem with the sod wad. You can't pass through the ceiling lights and this prevents access to some areas.

I used mostly ZDoom, EDGE and Doom Legacy and Doom 2 Wolf3D conversions working fine with these ports.

Most Clever one-level Doom 2 wad?

Post by stathmk on Fri Jun 13, 2008 5:02 pm

I think that the most clever one-level Doom or Doom 2 wad is "Doom: The Arcade Game:" http://www.doomworld.com/doomarcade/ . I can run it in Doom 2.

The level has a spinning introduction, kind-of like an Unreal Tournament level does. There's a time limit, but you get more seconds for shooting enemies. You can swim in the green acid. I believe that some areas are sloped. I used IDCLIP to get to different areas to first figure out what I need to do. I made "9 9 9" appear by using some switches. You need to flip certain switches to win. I'm not going to say everything because I don't want to spoil the rest of the level.

For the Battleship level, I used IDCLIP to get closer to see what would happen if I shot all the imps down. Every time you shoot an imp, then his lifeboat or battleship will sink. Shoot them all down to win.

This doesn't have anything in particular to do with Wolfenstein. I'm just posting in the Doom add-ons section.
