wolf3d sound in windows xp

Post by xanalyoko on Sun Jul 05, 2009 11:20 pm

I searched google and was referred to a website called wolf3d dome where the owner had a file listed called sound fx2000 that emulates sound cards for dos games. He made it sound good so i downloaded the demo.

What did i find??? It's a virus a fking virus. It worked for about 30 sec and kicked me out of the game. Now i cannot run the game. So i uninstalled the program. Still cannot run the game. Tried rebooting. same fking results i cannot run wolf3d. Did system restore. Same fking results i cannot run the game. And it ran find w/o the soundfx 2000.

I just downloaded the demo and checked it with Norton antivirus and it came up clean.

Just checked the info on the product and it says that "the evaluation version is time limited to 3 minutes per instance". See http://www.softsystem.co.uk/readme.txt .

There is another product (this one is completely free) at VDMSound. See http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/ .

Use DosBox. There is a new version 0.73. Or, like Schabbs said-VDMSound. Here is a topic I started when I got back into this whole thing last year: VDMsound vs. DosBox. I personally prefer DosBox for the best sound quality.

I cannot figure out the dos box. I have not used dos for more then ten years. But i still know enough to get around a little but this thing all I get is a Z: and it will not let me access the other disk drives in the computer. It sais that i need to mount them. Something that i have never seen in dos.

Look at the DOSBox Quick Instructions on http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/dosbox.htm .
Using that method, you wouldn't need to change the Z Drive to C drive or mount it.

You must setting up DosBox: open edit configuration, below "#Lines in this section will be run at startup" type next commands:
mount C C:\DOS\CDrive
mount D D:\ -t cdrom (or any other letter of your CD drive)
C:
CLS
Then save, and all is ok.
