vista vs windows

alright.
which is better?
by better i mean:
faster, easier to use, allows gaming.
some say vista isn't ready for gaming.
your thoughts?
i think those 5000 dolalr gaming comps are xp not vista, tho.

I don't have Vista yet but I've heard that it will only play Wolf3D with DosBox. VDMSound won't work on it. Sad

That's such a bummer! I say stay with win98 or XP for Wolfenstein3D Very Happy

Well, what I have expremented with Vista, it really isn't worth of it...

Heh, I tried ToS in DosBox using Vista and eventhough I
raised the Frameskip to maximum, the game was still
horribly slow...

Also when it comes to other games I have tested,
only thing I got was random crashing when Vista suddenly
wanted me to verify if its okay to the game to access
the files it needed...

So I think XP is far better for gaming (though I would
stick with 3.1. or 9Cool.

I heard a rumor that the makers of vdmsound are trying to work on a vista only version of the program. I hope that rumor is true.

Haha. They haven't worked on VDMSound in like 4 years, why would they start again now? Plus, Windows XP actually RUNS dos games, just without the adlib music and sounds. Windows Vista doesn't even run dos games at all. Making the sound work on a platform where Dos doesn't even work seems quite useless - in my opinion.

Windows XP is better for gaming because you will get higher frame rates. In Vista your frame rates will drop significantly, regardless of your hardware. Vista will be more stable when a service pack is released. If you want Vista because of DirectX 10 instead of DirectX 9 your not missing out on anything special. DirectX 9 graphics look almost the same as DirectX 10 graphics. Also, DirectX 9.L is supposed to be released soon. Its DirectX 10 for XP.
