Wlfnstine: A totally new experience!

Post by rgamesinc

Wlfnstine

What is this monstrosity? Where did it come from? What does it want?

Well, all in all, its actually pretty simple. It wants to remake the MacWolf engine, with more 3d objects (made entirely with basic polygons such as cylinders, blocks, and spheres) and to introduce more types of enemies, things that make the levels a tad more interesting, more weapons, and easier modding Smile

So when this rocking and rolling game comes around, you'd best be waiting.

Screens:

Current notes:
1. That green guy is a nazi grunt, basically the equililent to a brownshirt in Wolfenstein 3D.
2. The hud is just temporary until I get one like the original going.
3. The armor doesn't work, so it will be removed from the final version.
4. Yes, those objects are 3D versions of the objects in Wolfenstein 3d. They were hard to make since I wasn't using a 3d model maker, just assigning cylinders and cones to different coordinates :/
5. Different ammo types? Yeah, so far I have a working knife, pistol, mp40, stenn (which will later be replaced with a chaingun), and a shotgun.
6. For those of you who noticed the red eyes, that a part of my dehumanization process of all of the enemies.
7. This game has no current story, and will thus take the player to random places for no reason, from Casl Wlfnstine to Hell to Alien Crafts to a Japanese warlord's barracks.
And finally, 8. If you played the Doom example on the game maker site, don't worry, this actually has enemies that will shoot you Very Happy

NEW! ENEMIES LISTED!

The game will have 10 episodes, the first one, of course, being Escape from Castle Wolfenstein, the second being Crossfire, the third The Trail Home. The rest are currently secret, so you'll have to find out Wink

as i always say, make sure there's nice action. alls wasted without some nice action.
anyways, nice thinking making em actually 3d-ish.

Thanks for the comments guys, I really love the support Very Happy

The game really has no story so I'm really incorperating in as many games as possible. Right now the universes that will be eaten by this game are, of course, Wolfenstein 3D (a majority of the mod is based on Wolfenstein), Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, and finally Shadow Warrior. More universes will be devoured by this game once they become available (I might possibly take still frames of Quake 2 enemies and Half-Life characters while I'm at it and incorperate them as well, who knows Wink )

this game sounds cooler and cooler everytime I look at the thread.

Wlfnstine is no longer attempting to remake MacWolf, but is now just trying to emulate some of its gameplay along the way. The gaming experience is going to be far more unique then it would be if it were based on MacWolf, but it will still have some wolf-y feel, I promise Very Happy

Now updated with the enemies of the first episode Very Happy

Weekend Very Happy

So far what I've done (besides whats already in the screenshots) is the Retrodead programmed thoroughly, the Reisedead programmed, and some time this weekend I'm going to get you guys a quick video of gameplay Very Happy

Post on Mon Aug 27, 2007 3:24 pm by rgamesinc

Well, you can ignore the poll now, the game is going to be sprites instead of 3d, though if I have the time, I might just make it togglable Wink

A demo should be ready for release once I have finished the first episode, which shouldn't take too long now since I have enemies, weapons, health, walls, decals, and almost everything else programmed; don't expect any promises though, I might just decide to keep the demo from the public until my birthday, which is in December.

We'll see, we'll see...

Also expect to start seeing more screenshots and stuff like that soon.

Hey everybody! Guess what! Project not dead Very Happy

It has been more of asleep, on temporary postponement (you can almost never trust me to go fully through on a project, so many started but never finished Sad )

I've been working on a demonstration of the engine's uses. It's going to be a 3 level mod of Wlfnstine named Bunker 68, which will show the capabilities of the engine that I made with Game Maker(most of which that were never possible with the original wolfenstein 3d.) It will feature a futuristic setting and levels unlike those in Wlfnstine (this is an engine demo, not a game demo).

Also a big thanks to Karharis who inspired me to get back to work on the project Very Happy

Good to hear you've woken up the game Razz
Can't wait to see that game in action, I really liked that demonstration vid you made some weeks ago Razz
And I always like to inspire people Wink I'm glad to hear that it worked Smile
Good luck with the project. And btw, I've fixed that annoying bug that made one of my Directional Sprites into a ammo box Smile it just shows that people should never give up trying to fix things, it's only making us better Wink

Actually I never thought taht the project was dead. I just kindda forgot it, becuase my memory is turning into a bowl of lard.
Good to hear you are back.
Hey, can you make objectives in your game? Like you must accomplish it, or some sort of score system for the objectives you finished? That would be awesome Smile

Post on Tue Nov 20, 2007 9:40 pm by rgamesinc

I will be making something similar to achievements in most XBox360 games known as medals. Do certain things, you get different medals. When I release the engine of the game for modding I'll be sure to make it easy and understandable how to create your own medals for earning.

Post on Wed Nov 21, 2007 5:13 pm by lilmanjs

sounds cool. I wonder if anyone will recreate some wolf3d mods for your game.

Post on Wed Nov 21, 2007 5:55 pm by Raziel

Wow, I can't wait to use this game's engine :]
That'll be so much fun XD

I've now posted the demo on my server. It's at http://www.brlowe.co.uk/wlfenginedemo.exe .

It's a very advanced project. Can't wait to see the final version. Smile

Post on Tue Dec 04, 2007 5:13 pm by Airslide

This looks like a sweet 3d gm game, but the demo seemed total un-related to the screens Neutral

I'm actually doing something sorta like this in DBP, if you've ever heard of it (Dark Basic Professional). I'm using a script engine called LUA which means you won't need the source code to mod it Very Happy Too bad it doesn't seem to want to work correctly (some bad bug in my code)...

Anyways, looks good, though the demo sorta turned me off. Were those half-life things or something?

Post on Tue Dec 04, 2007 6:16 pm by rgamesinc

Thanks for the feed-back, but you don't seem to understand; the point of the demo was not to show anything that had to do with story, but the ability of the engine. The engine doesn't not work without nazis and castle-based themes, which is why I decided to show the project with a different theme on the demo so that people could see that modding could take a life of its own without having to stick to the wolfenstein theme.

Post on Tue Dec 04, 2007 7:30 pm by Airslide

So you are going back to the wolf theme, right? Smile

Post on Tue Dec 04, 2007 9:29 pm by rgamesinc

Yes, the final gameplay version will be 100% wolf themed and the engine will have everything the gameplay version had with a little extra Smile
